right, i bought a SB Live player 1024 cus i thought it would be great. I put it in, install drivers etc.. Everything is fine in windows playing mp3z etc.. BUT, when i put it into an EAX game (i.e. UT, AvP) the FPS goes right down when i am near to somebody shooting at me. And when i play Rollcage, the fps is low all the time. Help, what is wrong. I thought hardware accelerated was supposed to be faster!
Machine Spec:
AMD K6/2 500MHz
64MB RAM
V3 2000 AGP
IBM 75GXP HD
SB Live 1024 player

How do i get my speed back?
:(
/me want games to be faster again.
You see the point is, i pay 55 quid for something to turn off, it pisses me right off

errr sorry to disapoint joo m8 but EAX/3D/surround sound severly reduces processor power ie. fps.
its got nuffin to do with the sound card.
3D sound uses so much CPU power that it drains ya frame rate by the bucket loads.
and why u want 3D sound anyway????
it wont make a difference to ya gaming skillz
at the end of the day it some temporary "aural candy" that soon wears off.
best thing about the SBlive is the quality and the fact that u can hear multiple sound sources at once.
EG. i play UT
my clan has a web page with a small voice chat program on it so we can use mics to talk to each other.
with the SB lives ability to procsess multiple sound sources i can now play UT AND still be able to talk to me clan m8's on the web page!!!
its fookin mint.

is it sharing an IRQ with anything? that might cause the problem otherwise give creativelabs tech support a ring

yes, i never noticed b4, but it is sharing an IRQ with my Netgear PCI NIC card on IRQ 9. How do i get it to have its own IRQ?

fixed it :)
big respect werewolf!
and, urmm, the FPS DOES go up. It went from ~32fps up to ~40fps which is good.
Oh yeah, is that an ok fps for this spec machine?

I cant thank you enough m8

nice to hear it's working properly:)
I have 2 of them ine my machines and they are great, it's worth getting a 2nd set of speakers/the 4 point surround if you have space and don't mind shelling out on them, they sound great in half life etc ;)

Oh and the FPS sounds about right.

My old k6-2 350 with a banshee and 128mb ram got about 30fps with the SB-Live (at 800 by 600)
