All advice gratefully received...

I'm going to be upgrading replacing my PIII 500 in a couple of weeks and i've decided to take the plunge this time and build it myself. In the past i've done all of necessary work in individual stages whilst repairing or upgrading but i've never attached a CPU to the motherboard.

I'm really hoping it just slots in to a waiting perfectly sized hole...:)

I'm going for an athlon thunderbird 800-900 or so (depending on price) on a kt7 mobo in a 300w case. the rest i'll use from my existing system.

if im biting off more than i can chew and need to buy some soldering irons please let me know.

Thanks

Nope, if you're happy fitting cards and ram, you should have no problem building from scratch.

Have fun, it's very satisfying, not to mention nerve racking building your own PC (4 complete PC's built another 3 rebuilt) ;)

A good place to look for advice is here
http://www1.amd.com/duron/config
Although it's intended for the Duron, when it comes to building the machine the T-Bird is near enough identical

Just make sure you have adiquate(sp?) cooling for the T-Bird
(has cooling on the brain, as i'm sure people will tell you), as they do get rather hot:)
