I have a Athlon Thunderbird 700 and a Gforce 2 Mx with a ASUS K7V Motherboard. When i bought the Gforce i wasn't getting the best performance out of it until I installed the VIA Drivers from their site. I can now get about 80FPS from games like CS and UT etc. But Windows 98 now takes a lot longet to boot up. This is because at the end of the post, after everything has been found there is a 15 second pause before Windows loads. I know this may be a little petty but it used to take me about 5 secs to load everything. Does anyone know how to resolve this please?.

I heard that the latest BOIS for your mobo speeds up boot times quite significantly, but there seems to be a little problem with them ... the cpu or system temp increases by 14 degrees or summin ...
Thats why most people just decided to stick with the old bios, as the huge increase in temperature is not worth the faster boot times for everyone ...

click run from the start menu and type msconfig
click ok
now a program should pop up that lets u untick which programs are loading at start up
try unticking everything on the startup tab and see if that makes a difference
also check the program menu's startup folder for any shortcuts...
I had the asus A7V which was the same, took forever to boot, even with a clean install of windows. Try the bios update, it might be worth it.

Mine seems to take a long time to between the W98 splash screen dissapearing and getting into Windows itself. I'm pretty sure that some hardware checks are still going on as my SCSI CD/RW lights flash on & off and the floppy light does the same. I reckon it's just the PC sorting itself out. 15 seconds is nowt really ......
