'ello Folksies,

Your drunken, almost sober, Beloved Beaky at your service, kind sirs.

I'm currently having problems with my beloved VoodooII which refuses to allow me to play CS, or any 3D game for that matter, whether on or offline.

I had a VoodooII SLI setup, removed one of the cards, and reseated the other card, due to the fact that the SLI setup was not detected in Windows and was inoperable. My single card is not detectable by my default Righteous 3DII panel in Display, though it will allow me to test the card setup for frame rate performance. The 3DFX V2-1000 panel does detect my card. 3DMark 2000 either crashes or switches off my beloved monitor in confusion, causing me to consume ever increasing quantities of alcohol.

I have since disabled serial port COM2 since it is not in use. I am now able to detect my beloved Voodoo in System/Computer/Memory Resouces, though not in the IRQ section which has 15 IRQs, or ERKs in my case. On bootup, Voodoo and Display Controller IRQ are reported as being N/A.

My system setup is as follows:

Intel PIII 650E guarranteed to 866Mhz
ASUS CUV4X mobo
128Mb of PC-100 RAM
AWE 64 Soundcard
ATI 4Mb Graphics card

I am currently running SETI in the background and don't know if this would interfere with gaming. I do disable it during gaming, but it does return again after a minute of inactivity.

In the past after disabling SLI, I once successfully jumped on a German server playing CS, though I did not participate. I now find that jumping on an empty server causes my system to hang, halfway through raising the "curtain" to access the game. I presume this would also be the case for an occupied server also, I haven't tried doing so yet.

Any suggestions that may be applicable to my problem would be Mighty Fine appreciated, and would go a long way to stopping me from becoming a Mighty Fine Confused Alcoholic.

MindYerBeak of U:DcUK, at your service.

Hi m8

I used to have Voodoo2 SLI and experienced the same problems quite often - every know and then it would just lose my V2's completely....I could re-install, take them out, put them back in, reload the drivers, etc, and it would still not find them. Then all of a sudden they would appear out of the blue again! Used to have me pulling my hair out because there didn't seem to be any logic to it. About 50% of the time while trying to play Q2/Q3A online it would just hangup and my monitor would shutdown. It was a nightmare - so much so that in the end I ripped them out and stuck a Voodoo3 in.....no more problems. The only thing I ever found that helped was when I did a total clean install of windows (and hard drive format) - then it went a good while without any problems. I also noticed that all these problems are quite common with V2's - the 3dfx message boards were full of people experiencing the same problems, especially with the DirectX7 drivers.

Sorry I can't be of much help - unfortunately I gave up the fight long ago. My best advice would be to go to PC World and get a Voodoo3 2000 for £50 - slightly better performance/visuals than V2 SLI, and a cracking 2D card as well. And they work ALL the time :)

p.s. Voodoo2's don't use IRQs - so don't worry about that.

Thanks for the info. I'll take your advice. I could sell them both for 30 to 40 Squidgeys and cut my losses. The closest I've come to success is that I need to install OLD drivers in order to get it to work.
