View Full Version : Dead Celery

Bought a 667 Celeron and an Abit Slocket to make it fit my new Aopen AX6BC m/b. Fit my old PII to the board first to make sure it works and everythings fine. Stick the Celery in with visions of 1000mhz before you know it and nothing......no POST, not even a solitary beep....Power's there 'cos the fans are all up and running and the hard drive whirr's a little at first.

Put the old cpu back in and it loads up fine, so I checked Aopens website for a BIOS update. It seems though that mine's the latest already and it supports Coppermines. In the end I phoned up Dabs, where I bought the chip from but not the Slocket, and "Its the Slocket thats the problem.....need an Aopen slocket. Those Abit ones only work with Abit m/b's"....like I expected anything different....

So 1 Aopen slocket later and still zilch...So is the CPU dead or and I missing something stupid? The m/b is jumperless and 2 slockets can't be knackered....

As far as I'm aware the SlotKet!s have jumpers on them, make sure those are set accordingly.

As well as the jumpers on the slocket, I'd check the voltage settings on the motherboard. It might be that the voltage being supplied to to the slocket and celery is incorrect. I's suggest a bit more homework on the Abit & AOpen web sites.

Sorry

Thanks for the help guys.

I've tried the jumpers on the slockets on both "Automatic" and set to the Celerons voltage and FSB....but still nothing...And the m/b voltage can only be set in the bios or by VID. Can't get to the bios cos the bloody thing won't work......

A pox on Dabs and all who work for them.....
