ok i went an bought a new geforce card made by absolutemm.
It fitted ok but my problems started with the drivers that came with the card. I installed em ok but when i rebooted my screen has pink lines on it an the desktop has like pixel lines on it. So... I dloaded the (cant remember the name now doh think it was detonator drivers, ne way the ones that r meant to give u a 50% increase in performance from the nvidea webby an now whenever i boot up all my icons on the desktop are black and look corrupted, also ne pictures on programs are in vbad pixellated b+w. The properties box for the display says the card is using the drivers ok. The sliders for 16 bit high color etc are all in b+w stripes.
Half life jus bombs when i load it an to tell the truth im a touch p*ssed off after spending 4 hours trying to get em to work. Ive tried removing the detonator drivers an reinstalling the original driver soff the cd but when it now trys to install em it jus says it cant find the disk arrrgghhhhhhh!!!! help please cos if this aint sorted by tomorrow im gonna take the card back to pcworld an tell em to shove it where the sun dont shine. Come back my voodoo banshee all is forgiven. Im running a tiny 450 p2 128 ram

I would probably say the same thing to you as I did to that guy. The only other things I can suggest are: Make sure there are no IRQ conflicts in your Device Manager. Make sure you clean off all your old 3dfx drivers - make sure you delete anything in ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS to do with 3dfx, also go START/RUN and type MSCONFIG, then go to the STARTUP tab and untick anything to do with 3dfx in there. Clean every trace of the GeForce drivers off (remove any entries in your Win Registry (also any 3dfx stuff while you're at it) - back the Reg up first!) and start again. If all else fails you might have to bite the bullet and do a clean install :( I would say the list of possible problems, in order, would be:
1.Driver problems/conflicts
2.IRQ conflict
3.AGP voltage issues
4.Card overheating
5.Faulty card
Hope this helps.

ta 4 replying m8. Ok 1stly. After opening up display properties to see if id missed somthing my pc locked up an when it rebooted my desktop was back to having color logos an the pixellated lines instead of the Black corrupted logos (now i hadnt actyually clicked anything in display it locked just as it loaded). I figured id try cstrike to see if it worked an it loaded fine with just corrutption lines on the loading screen. When playing i was getting good fps 40-75 (well better n my banshee neway) howeveer the screen was covered with green and purple pixel dots and on the wall textures had green and purple splodges like som1 had graffitied them onto the walls and floors. After about 15 mins my puter again locked up and when it rebooted yes u guessed it i had the black corrupted logos agin. Now i cannot tell if i have any system conflicts agin becuase i cannot make out the little logos in any windows window.
I dont mind reformatting my hdrive my only concern is my cable modem. I had guys install it 4 me and im worried that if i reformat i may lose certain information i need to get online! dunno if this will be the case need advice here.
I have tried takin out the gforce and reinstallin my banshee and it works fine so it aint my agp slot or monitor thahts buggered.

it sounds like the memory on the card could be damaged, if you can try it in another machine.
Yeah, trying it in another machine would tell you if it's the card or your pooter. It still could be an AGP voltage issue - the Banshee works fine in all AGP slots, but the newer cards need more power and the older motherboards can't supply enough (this catches sooo many people out). Basically, all the recent AGP cards need AGP2.1, and most the old BX motherboards are AGP2.0 (or summat like that...)I'm not sure what to suggest about your cable settings I'm afraid - maybe speak to the people who installed it? Basically you need to start the process of elimination - if you can clean install that would (more than likely) rule out any driver problems/conflicts (I'm willing to bet it would work fine then). If it still doesn't work then it's either the card or your AGP slot. If the card works in another machine then you have your answer :)
Ahhh, the joys of owning a PC eh? :(

ok i aint got ne access to another pc so i may have to go with the reformatting route. Apart from my cable problem which i think i should be able to sort my only other query is becuase this is a Tiny PC an all the components e.g. the banshee were fitted when it came, the cd and floppy u use to reformat with have the drivers on for the banshee so will it ask for the banshee to be connected when i reformat because i should have the geforce connected b4 i reformat shouldnt i? otherwise im back to square 1. BUT.... will it ask for the driver's for the gforce as it reformats because the tiny cd will be in and not the nvidia one?

o well. I did a clean instll an the card is still fekked. I may of forgotten to mention that the card packet when i bought it from pc ****e was already opened with a sticker on it saying quality checked by G Arnold. Cheers arnold u tosser remind me to punch u if youre at the store. Im back up n running now with me ol reliable banshee an the other card is going back tomorrow. Ta 4 the help all those who tried to get me up n running.
Hard luck mate :( I'm still thinking AGP voltage problem myself. I would find out the exact make/model of your motherboard and hunt around the Net to see if it's a known troublemaker - or you could find yourself in the same position with the next card you try. I've been through all this myself cos I have an old LX board so I can't use any of the latest AGP cards :( If you're still intersted in a GeForce you could try the MX - there is a PCI version around, and to be honest the performance is almost the same as the AGP. Good luck!
MX use less power anyway, so the agp should work too..
