What was the first piece of anime you ever saw? Mine was Akira, must've been 11/12 at the time and I fell asleep half way through it :D that good eh?

Akira and I nearly burst a blood vessel fighting off hordes of...oh no thats a dream I had.
Yes twas Akira for me. The comics are better than the movie but they are a behatch to find these days and cost.
Did Manga Mania ever finish that run???? Anybody know??

Cant remember mine, must have been Fist of the north star.
But I was into anime a lot earlier than when i saw my first Manga production.
Was a series think it was the one where the gladiators all fight in special armour. Pegasus armour, Dragon armour, Phoenix armour etc.
Ace it was.
Either that or City Hunter series. :)

First anime I saw was Akira, then 3X3 Eyes....didn't think much of Akira but 3X3 Eyes was amazing and I was immediatly hooked.
first one i saw was thunder sub waaaaaaaaay back in 1991
and i'm still kicking myself for missing the very last episode..especially when i'd seen each and every episode and the show was absolutely brilliant..
and oh monkey fool
one of my local comic shops (incognito to be precise) is selling the aira mangas in graphic novel forms..but the'r still there
they've got volumes 2,3 and 5 at the moment (i think...)
so me's gonna save up for them..
so :P to you
:E
Fist of the north star then uncut version :) what a lovely anime for children that was. just watched it recently WOW its been cut down guess they dont like all the blood and death in it.
I never really liked Fist of the North Star....just seemed like a shallow anime trying to get people to watch it purely for the gore/blood factor.
I'd also like to add that the first anime I saw was Robotech, not Akira. Akira was the second :)
I can't remember the name of the first one I saw.
Was some freaky Jap cartoon anyway, not a properanime

Yeah, Akira too - saw that in a wierd cinema in Oxford - there was only about half a dozen people in there. Must have been about 14... :)

Don't know if this counts, but Battle of The Planets was the first weird Jap cartoon I ever saw, way back when I was a wee nipper, in the early 80's.

What?? As in the old program on BBC1, was that Anime?
I can't remember the style of it at all. :E
I remember the tune though.....
Aaaa Aaaa Aaaaaa Aaaa Aa
Searching for the cities of gold
Aaaa Aaaa Aaaaaa Aaaa Aa
We shall find the cities of gold.
I'm probably wrong and have a different program. :dork:
I can recall a parrot flying round screaming "TAO", "TAO" all the time.
Your not as sad as you think. :)
(If I have the correct show....)
Did they have a big gold flying think that looked like an eagle?
Monkey Fool
04-10-2000, 13:24
Yeah that's it and they took about 30 odd episodes to get it, the "Big flying golden transformer Eagle" or something. :E

Just out of interest, did anyone catch Hayao Miyazaki's Laputa (dubbed) on TV in the late 80's?
I never realised I had watched such a phenomena until years later when I saw all his other feature films :)
But I still gotta get hold of an english subbed Princess Mononoke, my chinese reading is too poor for the sub I got!
I think my first proper one was Cyber City... but if we're counting kids cartoons... I think some of them are Japanese/French collaborations, I'll list a load and maybe you guys can confirm whether they are or not? Dogtanian and the 3 Muskahounds, Around the World in 80 days, Ulysees, The Wizard of Oz and... Inspector gadget?

Battle of the Planets was the first Animé I saw, on TV of course. They show it on Bravo now and to be honest, it's a bit silly. What makes it worse, is that Mark's voice is played my Kasey Casem (Shaggy off Scooby Doo)
But for Animé vids, the first I seen was Urotsukidoji. Bought Fist and Akira along with Demo womb soon after. This was about 8 years ago now. Animé has gone back underground really, which I prefer cos about a year after I started watching, all the kids were into it just cos they thought they were cartoons with sex, violence and swearing. Very sad. I have about 110 Animé vids now. I had Perfect Blue Crimbo last year and I haven't watched it yet. Same with the Patlebor double pack, that is worse, I have had it a couple of years and I still havent seen em :E
BK <==== True animé nut.. or is that Animé :dork:
