...can't really think of any obvious candidates for the England job. God forbid that they give it to Howard Wilkinson full time and I suppose there'll be people calling for Venables to come back, tho I can't see the FA doing that.

Just hope they don't employ a foreign coach, can you imagine Fergie leading out England

I think the best person for the job would be Alex Ferguson, but i can't really see him leaving Man Utd. The people's choice is surely Terry Venables who, i think would also be successful.
I think it has to be someone who is proven in the English game, you can't throw in a foreign manager who doesn't know how the games played over here. So perhaps the only worthy foreign manager (to me this means Non-British), is Arsene Wenger, lve him or hate him he's an excellent manager.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE not Bryan Robson. Loads of ppl go on about how he's a good manager. All he's done is got Boro promoted, spent loads of money and then got them relegated again.

Even though Fergi is scottish and not english and is manager of man utd
HE IS THE BEST MANAGER IN THE WORLD he should get offered the job

Well my choice would be either Arsene Wenger or Alex Ferguson and it wouldn't matter to me whether they were english or not,we are too far behind in skill at international level and these managers are the top in the english game and will go some way to at least playing a decent way of football.

Do you want a at least half decent team with a foreign coach or a crappy team with a english coach...the choice is yours.

Since you put it like that Blade, I think I could probably live with a foreign coach, but to be honest I think the FA are far to arrogant to even think it.

Exactly, that's what wrong with the FA. They should swallow there pride and do something different.

I feel sorry for Keegan, i don't think any manager could have motivated that bunch of lazy, arrogant, overpaid, selfish b&stards.

What pisses me off about our players, every tug, or shove and there down like a sack of sh1t. What ever happened to riding tackles, or chipping the ball over someone sliding in. I see it week in, week out, plyers arms outstretched shouting "ref!", while the opposition tears off towards goal.

We got nothing today, and deserved nothing. we have no leaders on the field or off it. we have no hunger, yet we are starving for success.

I can't see much hope as there is no heart or incentive as players are paid between £10000 - £50000 per week, win or lose. you see more fighting spirit in non-league footie or school boy footie than you did today.

Football is not a bottomless pit. It can't sustain these wages year in year out. When the bubble pops, thats when we start re-building. Till then, well, it's downhill, all the way.

As for Wednesday night?, Good luck England, coz were gonna need it.

Harsh, but fair :| I've still got alot of respect for Keegan, I can't think of too many other managers who would stand up and admit that they thought a job was too tough for 'em. But like RoadHawK said, alot of the blame has to be taken by the players as well.

Keegan is gonna take a lot of the flak and he'll admit it probably. Yet his record at Newcastle and, more prominently Fulham, shows he has what it takes to be a club manager.

International managing is a world away from club management and it shows in his tactics.

I would love to see a different formation or just some new young faces as devil suggested, to kill the staleness of our side.

Terry Venables, i'd love to see him return, but imo the only man for the job who is ruthless enough to kick the players arses hard enough is Fergie. Or how about Ruud Gullit?, he understands some of the deeper tactics of the game.

I think as soon as the FA can see past their giant ego's of theirs maybe then they could listen to the fans and see that they would really like Terry Venables to return. Although I really don't see how the FA could do that.

I've said before that there may be very little chance of Alex Ferguson becoming the next England manager because he still has his job to do at Man Utd and us Scots will be shouting for Alex Ferguson to become the next Scotland coach once we can get rid of Craig Brown and his dodgy defending tactics. :E

I noticed some fans would like Peter Taylor, but I don't see him standing down at Leicster where he is doing a good job so far.

However, I think the next manager could be Brian Robson, I don't know why I think that but just call me stupid or something and I'll accept it. :)

Was peter Taylor the ex under-21 manager that allmost had 100% record in the u21 Euro champs (lost to Germany i believe!!!!)?.

Why not Venables though?, he/we had a storming '96, 4-1 against the Dutch, put Spain out as well.

As for Robo, 3 or 4 peeps i've spoke to today have said him, can't see why though.

they should have a phone poll to pick the team
the player with the most votes get picked

Bryan Robson is definitely in the running, whether he'd take the job if it was offered? I'm not sure he's up to it yet, I mean he's never managed 'Boro in Europe, so he's a little lacking in experience. Anyway, he's not exactly set the world on fire with 'Boro.

I'm tempted to recommend Platty, if only to get him away from my beloved Forest :{

I think that the FA should let somebody with expirience into the job, somebody who has achived success elswere already. As many of you have said, Venebals, Ferguson or Wenger, those are the obvious and probably best choices but those are three that the FA are least likely to choose.

If they choose somebody like Robson they are daft, he had a great playing career and so far a decent managerial career but he ahs yet to manage at top level, I don't think he would be ready for the job myself.

Another person i'd like to see as manager is Gazza. He could get 'em all pissed and belch at all the Ities and screw the Germans then sit on his fat assss....

Believe me there is more people in the running for the job than you think.

I watched Wales yesterday as well, thought they sucked, but they came away with a draw. England don't suck, they F***, Big time.

Ok i've had a few beers tonight, sort of drowning me sorrows. Now this suggestion i've heard of before, many times often, BUT why o why don't we have a UK team!?!.

Giggs down the left, still giggs, cuts back to keane, teases, Becks to Scholes, hoofs to ferguson, onto MCcoist, YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! .

Is it possible?.

Seamus
09-10-2000, 00:47
It has been discussed before but the problem is that the majority of players in that team would be English and McCoist wouldn't get a snif in the UK team now because he is about 36-ish now and not as sharp as he used to be. I would favour Billy Dodds.

I also should note that Roy (or Robbie) Keane both play for the Republic of Ireland and therefor would not be able to play in any UK team, but they would be handy to have. :)

Personally I think we need to get past all that hype of premier league managers - as far as I'm concerned most of them are a load of crap anyway.

The next england manager should be someone with a lot of experience (a current player should be out of the question), and who knows how to manage well. The managers who go to clubs, spend loads of money and buy ridiculously overpriced players and play them wherever, should be out.

Bring Joe Kinnear or Harry Redknapp in :E

My heart went out to Keegan on Saturday! He was man enough to come out and admit he wasn't up to the job (remember it was the English fans and FA who pressured him into the job). All this pressure over the last few days added on top of his mother dieing 9 days previous must have been a tremendous strain!

Well done Kevin, you conducted yourself with dignity and grace!

Not sure about Harry Redknap, he always looks p!ssed whenever I see him :E I've also heard Fabio Capelo's (spelling?) name mentioned today.

The reason we don't have a UK or GBR team is because then we would only have 1 vote in FIFA,and that means Scotland,England,Wales And Northern Ireland leagues arguing over what they vote....well something along those lines i think.

We should have a sexy woman has England coach,be better to watch the bench than the football field  how about Sharon Stone in a skimpy see through tracksuit :E

<i'll get my coat>
