Hi just completed it with a Half-Elf Ranger (archer kit) and it was bloody hard so i decided to start a new character. Ive chosen a Kai Fighter and am planning to dual-class when he reaches lvl 12 or thereabouts. I thought about it for ages and finally decided to go as a mage mainly because a Kai fighter cannot wear armour and has many restrictions just a mage so i think that the combination of a skilled kai fighter added with the magical potential of a mage will work wonders especially if i focus his magic learning into defensive schools... Let me know what combinations you can think of? im pretty sure this one roks. Its just a shame you cant do it the other way around i.e Mage then Kai Fighter as it would make life a lot easier and i could advance the fighting skills quicker and more effictively, once i have the defensive spells learnt i really want the fighter side to progress.

anyone else finished it yet?....... :E

The Kensai/Mage is a very popular choice for a lot of people, for the very reasons you've given. I reckon dualling that way round would be the best option (even if you could do it starting as a mage), because it means you get far more hit points than you would if you started as a mage.

Come to think of it, next time I play the game I'm going to be a Kensai/Mage myself :)

I imported my Elven Ranger from BG and having looked at the NPC's in the game I wish I'd gone with a single class Mage. All the NPC spell casters seem to be multi or dual class. So I'm a little worried that they may not make the necessary levels by the end of the game to get the highest level spells. Oh well, there's always next time through...

Eh? Have I missed someone? I see from the manual that Edwin's back, but I don't think he'd mix to well with the rest o' my party.

Even if I was evil I'd rather eat my own feet than take Edwin into my party... he's just so obnoxious it's unbelievable.

For those of you who can put up with that, he has an incredible number of spell slots at each level... he's almost like a mage crossed with a sorceror. Very powerful.

You need to talk to Renal Bloodscalp of the Thieves' Guild, located to the west of the Docks area. He'll give you a quest to reveal Mae'var's treachery by working for him until you can get some evidence. While you're doing Mae'var's chores, you'll find Edwin.

kensai is a sub class of fighter, so choose fighter as your main class, select kensai...then when you reach level 12 or so dual class and choose mage....et voila! a kensai mage. On another note entirely I would like to release Boo into Edwin's undergarments. Oh yes.

My advice is to dual the kensai to a mage at level 9, that way your mage can still go all the way to level 17 getting your level 8 spells and still have decent melee abilities

Neilius: the reason Yoshimo can't dual class to a mage is because, to dual-class, you need a score of at least 17 in the prime requisite of the class you want to dual to. Yoshimo has strength 17, so he can become a fighter, but is intelligence is below 17 so he can't become a mage.

Fallen: the Kensai, or 'sword saint', is a fighter who has chosen to hone his weapon skills to perfection. To this end, he chooses not to wear armour, which would hamper his movements.
