I really want to get broadband. My phone and cable TV supplyers are telewest so getting blueyonder seems a good idea BUT iv read so many storys about packet loss, horrible pings, not what they promised download speeds etc. I'm just wanting to hear as many people with the service's opinions before I commit to anything. I live in Kirkcaldy in Scotland (does anyone reading this live near and have the service?)
Thanx

Well, im in Edinburgh m8. When i first got BY in June, it was screaming, fast browsing and downloads and game pings from 25-60 or so. Well worth the original £50 pm tarriff, never mind the £33 they charge now. :)
But lately, now that more ppl have subscribed to the service, Telewest have basically run out of bandwidth in several key places.
Now, as i've said elsewhere, Telewest are in the process of putting in some MAJOR network upgrades, the first of which, a big upgrade to their peering with the vitally important LINX system, went in this week. And lo and behold-my service was pretty much back to normal. Was playing Counterstrike from about 6.30am to midday yesterday (i'm nightshift this week :P ) and, depending on the server, i was pinging at anywhere from 25 to 50, averaging about 30 :)
That LINX upgrade is only the first of several scheduled to be completed between now and mid-Nov., so you may want to wait until then before making your final decision, but as things stand right here and now, i'm happy with the service:E

blueyonder are currently in the process of upgrading their routers and servers, hence the increased pings
download times are still fab, i get an average of 54k/sec download, but my ping is around 70, it was 30 when i first got cable modem.....
the upgrades are scheduled to be finished at the end of october 2000, ie 3 weeks from now, although i did notice a drop in my ping last night and was pinging between 40-50 on the servers
it's well worth the money imo

Cheers guys. I probably wait until the end of the month and see what people are saying then.

Personally I'd do the same, and wait until the end of October.
*I've been assured these MAJOR server and router upgrades will be completed by around that time.
* [This statement was from the Tech Support people at BlueYonder - I can't accept any blame if we're still moaning halfway through December; we'll have to wait and find out]
