BY cable, dynamic IP

Can someone tell me how do BY cable give you a different IP, and how long is the interval of that? every a few hours, they disconnect you?

Since when have they disconnected you... i think you keep your IP unless you reboot PC or CM??

the guy that came to fit my modem said that u keep ur ip aslong as the machine is switched on. He also said that u can still keep the same ip if your machine has been switched off and the switched back on within 24 hours. any longer and they may have assigned that ip to someone else getting their cable modem installed.
