Too everyone who has ADSL, I would like too know what pings you get in all games with all the different transfer rates, any information would be very much appreciated. I am particuallarily interested in Home User 500plus on Half-Life DM/TFC etc..
Although Q3A and UT info would also be nice :)

Thanks m8, very helpfull. I am getting it installed on 23rd October, just wanted too know that when you completed you install (if you did it online) did you get a confirmation e-mail? As I havn't heard anything for about 5-6 days ;(

I got USB ADSL..and i share the connection between 2 machines. I get pings of 40-60 in CS with the second machine just 5 higher.
CS is the only game I play, so have no other ping times.

i ping 30-40 in q3 and 40-50 in kingpin.
btw i have usb adsl installed

I've got USB ADSL through BT Openworld.
My ping times for CS are typically around 60, can go higher and lower. It's usually about the same as my mates on ISDN with ASUS TAs using decent dial-ups.

Its just BT being useless again, what kind of a company does not even bother to acknowledge an order or give and order number!
I ordered online 5 weeks ago and the stupid gits lost the order for 2 1/2 weeks!! ( I could not re-order as they recognised the credit card number from the first order!!!). I would ring their order management desk on 0800 169 8639 to make sure they got your order, they should have stopped loosing orders by now but they will also give you the result of the line test.

Abbott m8, don't get too excited (duh! be VERY excited :laugh:) as the pings posted by devpac were misleading. His shots were pings on empty servers, at the start of games or with just on person in there and never when there was action going on.
Like I said, be VERY excited as after being in a couple of games with -shiva- kali and co, I can backup their claims of pinging around 50-60. This was with a FULL server and the action was certainly kicking off. The most important thing tho is the zero packet loss ADSLers experience.
Yes you will see claims of bonkers low pings (I've managed less than 25 on ISDN, don't mean I ping less than 25, average 80) and hear nightmares of crazy high pings, these are isolated rare cases, I think ADSL is rocking for games, and that is just from a spectator with APPARANTLY the king of the swingers for gaming (ISDN) ;)

My ping has for a fraction of a second gone into single figures. How cool is that?
But, that is on the netgraph...on the scoreboard it never drops below 40ish....so I was wondering if anyone knew the differences between netgraph and scoreboard pings. I have heard the scoreboard includes timing and rendering latencies but I don't really understand. If ne1 could clear this up for me I would be very grateful.

People play CS because its a game where you dont use teamwork anywhere near as much as HLTFC or UTCTF.
Also its mainly a newbies game,and we've had loads of people convert from CS to UT cause of Beta 7 or something

if you were, in game, too change the cl_updaterate too 9999999 then look at the net_grath, there would be no ping, it's just a prediction of what your ping would be. On any connection you can get single figure numbes in net_graph. What are your cl_updaterate and cl_cmdrate settings set too?
I rang BT up and they have found my order but I am still awaiting Line Test results. (Dad was on phone to them when I left to goto college)

How you can possibly say that CS is a newbies game is beyond me.......it's totally the other way round.
CS is by far the most team oriented game about because you only have 1 life and you have to make it count...for the team.
HLTFC and UTTFC are just too easy 'cos you constantly respawn so ppl can do whatever they like...I used to play and still do occasionally HLTFC UTTFC etc but nothing and i mean nothing beats CS for teamwork and tactics....play it again m8 and you will learn......

my views:
Played them all (fps for years and years), so think I know the score. Even though I am still getting used to CS, I can safely say that it is the best tactic/teamwork FPS about. At first I though it was a flop of trying to merge HL and Rainbow six, but the more you play, the more you realise what a kick ass game it is - and it aint even released yet!!!
For skill (and as this guy thinks he's some), as in ADVANCED skill, HL is tops, the likes of UT and Q3 ARE 2 EASY. It's more to do with ping than nething else, I have just walked around a full server and fired away and won it! I'm not that good and I walked in, kicked arse, walked off. I go into a HL server and some geezer is flying about with so much control, ruling the map with a ping of 200+ ??!!!WTF.
So m8ty, teamwork=CS, skill=HL, newbies=UT :P

HLDM takes the most amount of Teamwork I'd like too anounce with such large great maps made by Valve themselfs, also there are FAR too many cheats in CS for it too be condsidered a top game, also it is soooo borin. NO action, I want ACTION ACTION ACTION, KILL KILL KILL!! :E

I originally used to play HLDM/TFC etc and after my first few attempts at CS I was the same...I thought it was b_a_d but once you get into it and play it the way it's meant to be played....ie. don't blindly rush in everwhere (a la DM)( I know it's hard to do 'cos I still do it...lol)........you will appreciate it....I've never had as much fun than playing CS...I urge you all to give it another go, it's that good!!

I've tried, used too be in a clan but it was toooo boring. Also there is nothing too it.. Whereas DM, ah, now that is a game where you need good tactics too win, you need a variety of different skills, for example, Gauss Jumping, Strafe jumping acceleration jumping etc. etc. the list goes on and on. Whereas CS? You just need to be able to aim.. Oh, and know how too drop a bomb off.. And if you do? You have too wait till the game has finished...
Er, now even I have to take issue with that. Surely a game is only as easy as the people you are playing against? Sure, I've wondered into a UT server and kicked ass but I've also wondered into the wrong saloon, er, server and ended up last with zero frags. UT attracts newbies cos it is much more accessible than HL (Don't give me any of that cl_garbage=9999) - in UT, you just install and go. But that doesn't mean its any easier or harder than other games. Mastering all the weapons, with 2 or 3 fire modes on all, and some very clever maps, takes a lot of time and dedication. Might be tougher to master CS, I've never played it, but UT shouldn't be considered in the same sentence as Q3 in terms of complexity.

seems 2 b a lot of confusion.
Tactics in HL and UT (won't even bother with Q3), are on a COMPLETELY different level to CS. In HL, yes you get gauss gun jumping etc, but that is SKILL, not TACTICS. The level to which tactics go in HL is if yer in a clan match (not really true DM) or figuring out yer route. Before you talk about tactics, go play rainbow six/age of kings and you will learn the meanings of tactics.
CS contains elements of tactics of a far superior plane to HL and UT, with the team element making for a very fiery combination.
So again:
SKILL = HL and UT, TACTICS AND TEAMWORK= CS
you can't compare them - could even class them as different genres of a game.

OMG there are thousands of cheats for CS, like wall hacks, spiked models and aim bots, hence loads of top clans left the scene...

yes, there is teamwork in clan matches, but on a totally different level to CS. It is stilll essentially in a DM environment. You can't change the way a game plays by using the fundamental engine that drives it. Hence why CS has revamped/tweaked the HL engine specifically to ENHANCE the obvious original teamplay possibilities of HL, this has lead to a very advanced teamplay game that has resulted in tactics that are inconceivable in a DM environment.
And yes, there are a load of cheats, got shot thru a wall the other day and it chafed my ass! Shame that the scene has to be spoiled by a minority of cheaters. It's well worth finding yer fave servers/peeps and sticking to them.

Getting back to judging these games on the number of people that actually play them (surely the fairest way to judge)..
There are 4881 Half life servers with 12101 players.
Of these, 3349 are counterstrike servers with 10486 players.
There are 1869 UT servers with 1635 players.
I honestly believe the figures speak for themselves.

Shiva, this is because all the newbies that goto play HL (like yourself) are told about CS and think WOW must try that, and get thrown into it, whereas DM is a lot harder too play and requires more skill and therefore people are turned off because of this and the first time they enter a server they have no chance of winning and leave. And a lot of people who buy HL buy it for CSh1t. What is Half-Life? What do you do in the game? EXACTLEY, DM. so shhhhh again until you come up with a good comment....

Right I don't play HLDM at all. This weekend as a clan try out I went and had a go...I got 40 kills for 30 deaths. Hmmm. Not a great score I admit...but for my first real go?

no i havnt because I have been on the train home, not that I need too because my dad gets them scores and he's on modem, I get maybe 10kills and 3-4 deaths in CS, wow, that dosnt mean a thing.. The reason you can/probably will be as good in each is because they use same game engine hence shooting is the same, also the lag in both games is that same sort.. (Q3A lag is ery different too HL lag)

UT a newbies game?? puzzled by that, I've been playing it since it 1st came out, and I'm still learning stuff..
I like the fact that Epic's gone to a lot of trouble to nail cheats... I hear there's prob's in CS with cheating? so I wouldn't give it shelf space... I hate cheats.
I'll stick to UT.. Instant, skilled, action mayhem ;)

Um,Shive if u think UT is easy come and have a go in the clan servers with all the l337 players,in cs u got a machine gun or a pistol just spam the bullets around and you kill,in UT u got skillful weapons like the RL

You cannot just "spam the bullets around" to get a kill.
For the guns to be at all acurate you need to be stationary and crouched. When you get more experience you can judge where the recoil is gonna send your aim and adjust accordingly.
I'm up for some UT (need to get it reinstalled) if you're up for a pasting at CS :laugh:

OK OK, resolve this one pls forum, as far as I'm concerned there are NO cheats for CS, I play off a square mat like the rest of cs, sometimes I win, some I lose....... I play loads so if there were loads of cheats then I would be getting humped by the same ppl all the time...........COMPRENDE?

Ive not played CS, and only a tiny bit of HL, so I really would be a "newbie to the slaughter" :), get in touch if you fancy it.
Just as a point of interest, I dont think that games such as CS can be compared at all to any form of DMing game due to the total difference in style of game, but UT does have Tactical Ops and Strike Force, both quite similar to the game style of CS, not saying either are better nor more popular.
(me tries to cover all angles in an attempt to avoid flames)
