View Full Version : OT : ISDN advice
I know a few of you have ISDN access, just need to ask a couple of questions :)
A member of my family is getting a 2 line ISDN put in and needs an adapter card, anyone got any recommendations? And what ISP is good value for money, but still very reliable service? Preferably with 128k access as well, and he'll be using it a lot during the day.
Any other advice/tips greatly appreciated :)
BT probably explained all this to him, but he has a brain like a sieve and seems to have convieniently forgotten everything until 2 days before they install it ;)

I have 2 pc's using the asus in-100 adaptor, it's a good piece of kit and very reasonably priced £25-35.
http://www.solwise.co.uk is a good place to go for them. I've heard that PC World are selling the Eicon Diva for about £50 which is a good price for an excellent piece of kit.
Some people say to avoid the BT speedway, but aparently they work fine if you don't use the supplied drivers but down load new ones from the German site (don't know the addy for it)
isp's, RHA is damned good value but a bit unreliable at times. Clara net would be my choice of isp they have a range of pricing options and are pretty solid performance wise.

I;'m using the Asus card as well - it is recommended in loads of online forums for it's low latency (= low ping)
It's cheap, reliable, easy to install - what more could you want ?
I dunno how well it works with multilink PPP (128k) though - maybe search some forums.
I've only used it on BTfree and 24-7freecall - 64k circuits..... you get a nice 55-75 ping in CS :) on both services.
(alot of speed gain comes from not having to modulate and demodulate from digital to analogue and back as you do in a modem)

I use the Eicon Diva you can get from PC World - excellent card but I also hear that the Asus might eb the best gaming wise.
I also use Clara Net as they are by far the best ISP I have come across (esp for ISDN) ever, reliability, speed, service etc is all great but they are not that cheap. They currently do not have a 24/7 package (waiting for FRAICO kit from BT) but they have various other packages.
Card choice depends on use, AsusCom owns for games low ping etc, but aint so hot for d/loading. The Eicon Diva is better for downloading but pings are generally not so good.
I use RHA for 0800 access, engaged quite alot in the evenings, but ISDN makes dialling upto it much easier, i use Globalnet for my main ISP its very good.
Multi-link setup is piece of piss, but is a bugger to get working properly with RHA.

I've just checked with Clara.net, for some reason they don't allow access to icq on their freetime package. :(
