Hi

I was hoping to get ADSL, but now i'm not too sure. I was looking at the USB £40 a month services from BT or freeserve.

I just emailed BT and they are telling me:
[I]"Unfortunately, you are unable to use NetMeeting, send or receive files for ICQ, this is to do with masquerading IP Addresses, which is a form of NAT. However, you should be able to send and receive messages on ICQ."[I]

I also found http://support.navix.net/dsl/qualify/service.htm which lists some more applications that arn't supposed to work properly and explains why.

So this means that no one on the net can connect to your machine? i.e no setting up a UnrealTournament Server, no IP to IP communications basically?

I hope I got the wrong end of the stick

thats a load of bulls m8
i can do everything on icq and host games of cs on my machine. i think once a dqy your ip changes or something but all that does is make you lose connection to the game but things like icq, mirc, napster and stuff are all fine

Thats a relief :) Thanks for the quick reply!

They really messed up rolling out ADSL, all this crap is really confusing me. :(

What company/service u using? I'm thinking of going with BT..

Apparently, your IP does not change for the duration of current connection......so does that mean that if you never disconnect, you effectively have a static IP? METHINKS NOT!
