hi peeps im looking for some help,
i got new cable modem fitted today at last, and was expecting
mega speed, but seems to be problems somewhere,i typed in the command winipcfg,to get my modems ip address,it says ppp adapter, then the drop down bar says rtl8139(a)based ndis 5.0 driver, which should i use???the ppp adapter doesnt have an ip address, and the other doesnt seem to respond very well>>>>>>>help, once i get this sorted how do i get to the website to find out my upload and download speeds, sorry to ask so many daft questions but im clueless as to whats going on,heres hoping you fellow gamers can set me on the right path,
cheers

Ok, the second item in the menu should refer to ur network adapter-ie. the card that actually interfaces with ur modem. Now, u will have to liase with ur service provider's tech support (u didn't say whether u were Blueyonder or NTL) and ensure they have u'r MAC address(it should be on a label on the back of ur CM), and that u can get an IP address that way. If u've already done all that and are still getting probs, there may be a network prob-again give u'r tech support line a bell:)

If u want to check u'r download speed go to http://www.dslreports.com and give both the download sites a whirl-that should give u a good asessment of u'r connection speed.
That site also has a few downloadable, self-executing tweaks for u'r Windows registry which optimise ur system for a broadband connection(don't expect miracles tho ;) )

If you're with BlueYonder the problem is BlueYonder. I keep lagging in IRC ffs.
