Final Frontier for Star Trek: Voyager

It's the end of the road for Star Trek: Voyager, but don't despair, sci-fi fans. UPN is already planning a new Star Trek series, which would be the fifth sci-fi installment since Captain James T. Kirk and crew first blasted into space in the 1960s.

No other details were available about the future of the Star Trek franchise, but fans have been petitioning Paramount, which owns the rights to the series, to build the new show around Captain Hikaru Sulu, the character portrayed by George Takei in the original program.

so does this mean that it will be set in the 23 century..not in TNG time but about enterprise C dates???
so no more Borg? back to old/retro ship designs? chrome highlights, bag sound effects??? tacky uniforms? what will happen?

I think a good ship/series would be on a Federation Search and Rescue vessel...

Bah search and rescue soudns dull, needs to be something new, sommit untried, like DS9 on a space station, people thought it would be boring, turned out to be the best!
I hope that UPN will make the right choice.....

the hardcore trekkers apparantly called DS9 deep sleep nine.
I liked it from the outset just about though.

an SAR vehicle would be good though, all sorts of new unknowns and resuce ops...and they wouldn't have lots of fire power to sort things out all the time.

Well, about the only concrete thing i've seen quoted from Rick Berman et al is that:"you can safely assume it'll be set aboard a Starship" and that it'll be:" sexier, more 21st-century standard tv than the previous series" which IMO is about as vague as u can get :P

the man should write speeches for New Labour...

so it'll be set in the 23-25 century...
it will have aliens, star ships, uniforms, phasers, and people and may or may not involved the Borg......great. that's all clear then.

IMO Star trek's been going that way since we all had to start relying on Voyager for our 'fix' ;)

I heard about that one to. Though knowing star trek it will probably be another useless effort. Spending 90% of the time wandering through the crews personal lives *yawn* :o

Kirk and the boys were lame. Oh exept for some of the movies, they wernt to bad.

Picard and that infernal woman driver, were only marginally better. There wasn't even any battles :(

DS9 was lacklustre also. The only good parts were the battles. And besides the Dominion wud have kicked the federations ass. And the ending was pathetic. She has some Link with Odo and she stops the attack. I mean what the F**k.
On the good side it's watchable. And Some of the battles were good. errrm. Ok forget the good sides.

Voyager. Well to me this has been Star Treks finest efforts. Which is still a bit weak. Never the less when you ignore the plot holes it's watchable.

Now so far iv ripped every program under the same of Trek. However i am a Trekkie. So why? Well despite the flaws it's the only Sci-Fi soap i know, and it keeps everyone intrested.

ah well. If star Trek get some good writers and write some proper stories it would kick ass. There is allot of potential. Even if it went back in time im sure they could do somthing with it.

well said that man, but i disagree the 'needs better writers and stories' part, the on-ship romances are a bit repetitive at times, but that it, most epsisodes are perfectly writen, and the actors are well suited to thier roles....:pimp:

What i mean by the stories are, is that DS9 was pretty boring every week. Maybe every month or two somthing good happened.
But just as Voyager the plots are so completley predicatable. No mind bending plot twists, nothing that keeps you on the edge of your seat, and certainly nothing that makes you look foward to the next episode.

Maybe im expecting to highley of this popular sci-fi drama.
hmmmm

And the actors? Well they arn't bad. I used to h8 the acting. Sisko was as involving as a phone cable at the start of the series though he gradually improved. Tho most of the actors play thier parts well.

No special awards though.

So my contradiction is. "most episodes are perfectly written"

Maybe if most was few. then id agree entirley :D

Cheers all
