I'm sure most ten year-olds would love 'Kingpin'.

Hi there, I have been through the site looking for stuff suitable for a 10 year old that he might like and have come up with a few games. Just click on the link below to be taken to the Shop Site and type the title of the game/item in the search box in the top left corner, this will take you to a page with info on the games/items and the option to buy them online.
Gameplay Shop Site (http://www.gameplay.com/shop/)
Bust a Move 4, A fun puzzle game.
Croc 2,A cool platform game.
Simon the Sorceror 3D, A magical spellcasting platform adventure (not released until 24/11).
Rayman 2, A brilliant 3D platform game.
As far as joysticks and pads go, the best pads I can reccomend are either the Sidewinder Gamepad or the Gravis Gamepad Pro (very similar to the Playstation joypad).
And for joysticks, either the Saitek SP550, A combination joystick and joypad!
or the Saitek Cyborg 2000 Stick, A top quality stick.
I was going to post quick links to each item but this bulletin board system won't let me for some reason!
I hope this helps!

When I was a 12 yr old I would have been well annoyed at getting any of the games that Mr666 reccomended, whilst they are "appropriate" for a 10yr pld what he REALLY wants is a proper game, not this stuff that is targeted at him, he wants the games that have ratings above his age. Simply put I reccomend the best games around for everyone else:
Deus Ex - BEST GAME EVER (But might be too complex)
Half-Life - Many say it is the best ever, I don't, but it IS damn good and easy to play
System Shock 2 - Second best game ever, but a bit complex and pretty scary
Well there you go, my tips might not be what you want him to play, but rest assured he would be damn glad to get em :D

I agree - all nice, messy games. But you missed Soldier of Fortune!

Well if she was only bewildered at first, then now she must be totally lost!
C'mon guys, is this how Gameplay want themselves to be seen by parents of young children?
Lucky enough she may not know what some of those games are about, so may miss the point. But I'm not too sure either she or her son may come back to Gameplay. Either to buy, to play, or to ask a simple question!

Thanx all for the advice. I dont what to make of some of it but I'll take a look at the games suggested and take it from there.
even more bewildered mum :{
Since most console games seem to be aimed at younger people, you could do worse to look at games that are more Playstation-like. That having been said, you wouldn't know much about thatif you don't know a lot about games - Croc 2 is a good suggestion (but then I worked on the original so I'm biased).
Does this have to be a surprise? I mean, you could always ask him :) Better yet, ask one of his mates.
Actually, you could ring the Gameplay order line - those guys aren't there to pressure you into buying, they really know the games, and try to make sure you get something that's appropriate for you. They are used to helping non-gaming-efficianados buy prezzies for their kids/husbands etc. They'll have a lot of suggestions I'm sure. The number is 0845 20 10 444
