View Full Version : Uh-Oh Bugs :(
I knew CS had its fair share of bugs before I got the game but I've hit a pretty major one already.
I've just finished the mission where you have to 'liberate' a Bloodhawk from the Boeing facility and I'm now unable to use the customise planes option at all. It just crashes to desktop :(
Anyone else experienced this or any other bugs? I've installed the patch but that's really only to deal with the save game issue.
I hope they get these bugs sorted, they really spoil what's otherwise an excellent game.
Wasn't the patch for the demo or did they release one for the full game as well?
heres what i recieved form the MS dev team while i was beta testing it, i dont know if this applies to the demo or the nasty warez version, or even the full retail version, but i do know it works in the beta versions i recieved, so hope it helps:) :
I received this note from the Crimson Skies Dev. Team and they asked me to
pass it along. They are working really hard to fix the gameplay issues that
you have been having and appreciate all of the excellent reports that you
have been sending. As new fixes are completed, I will be sure to forward
them to you.

Guy

All -
We've been monitoring the message forums closely and appreciate your
feedback on Crimson Skies. The following is a work around for a single
player saved game problem we've seen reports of. Please note, this is an
interim fix. We are working hard to find a solution on this and other
concerns and will be sure to post further information as soon as it becomes
available.
Again, we appreciate your support for Crimson Skies and continued feedback.

Loss of Single Player Campaign Saved Games
------------------------------------------
Problem: Single player campaigns
After playing through at least one mission in crimson skies, upon reload of
game, player reverts back to the first mission of the game (i.e., they lose
their saved game for their player name).
**Note: This problem occurs for the default player name -- all other player
name saved games seem to be unaltered.
Cause of the problem:
This problem has been narrowed down to three causes (though, may not be
limited to these cases):
1) Playing through at least one single player mission, launching a
multiplayer game, then going back to the single player campaigns and
reloading the default player name. This alters the status.dat file, causing
the player to revert to the beginning of the game (resulting in loss of the
saved game).
2) Playing through at least one single player mission, going into instant
action, building a custom plane, then going back to the single player
campaigns and reloading the default player name (this is regardless of
whether or not an instant action game has been played). This alters the
status.dat file, causing the player to revert to the beginning of the game
(resulting in loss of the saved game).
3) Playing through at least one single player mission, going into
multiplayer, building a custom plane, then going back to the single player
campaigns and reloading the default player name (this is regardless of
whether or not a multiplayer game has been played). This alters the
status.dat file, causing the player to revert to the beginning of the game
(resulting in loss of the saved game).
Work around:
After playing a single player campaign:
1. Quit out of Crimson Skies
2. Go to the Crimson Skies install location (default is c:\program
files\Microsoft Games\Crimson Skies, or right click on the Crimson Skies
desktop icon, select properties, and click on find target).
3. Select the SavedGames folder
4. Copy the SavedGames folder
5. Paste the SavedGames folder to another location, such as the desktop
The player can then go into instant action and multiplayer, create games,
launch and play games.
When the player wants to play the single player campaign again, they need to
follow these steps:
6. Copy the SavedGames folder from the other location (i.e., if it was
copied to the desktop, then take the SavedGames folder from the desktop)
7. Go to the Crimson Skies install location (default is c:\program
files\Microsoft Games\Crimson Skies, or right click on the Crimson Skies
desktop icon, select properties, and click on find target).
8. Paste the SavedGames folder into the Crimson Skies install location
(paste it over the current SavedGames folder)
Now the saved games should be reinstated, and should launch to the correct
mission.
**Note, the player needs to do this every time they go into instant action
and/or multiplayer and build planes, and when they go into multiplayer to
launch a game.

Quick note here.
CS uses a lot a memory. Set your Virtual Memory to computer controlled.
NB : Saw a post by a guy using Norton Utils. During game his processor was running at 100%, he had 4k of memory left and his swap file was nearly 800Mb in size.

i noticed it slows right down wen u come out of a game or quit totally....can I boost performance by setting the computer toi use my larger hard drive for virtual mem, or does this matter?
Sorry just noticed this post. CS tries use nearly 1gig of memory, so let windows manage your virtual memory.
ONE GIG, jesus - i get some major slowdown sometimes with 192mb ram, and a 400mb swap file! I`ll be increaseing the swap file i think.
Oh and i had that plane construction thing, i seemed to have cured it by setting my desktop res to 800*600 instead of the usual 1024*768 it sits at.
Cyas all tonight, my icq will be up from about 9pm onwards if anyone wants a game.
