cable modems..which one?

O.K. cable is supposed to be out in my area ..Ipswich...at the end of October with NTL, they offer two packages...two different cable modems..a Motorola one or a 3com.....

My question is which is better or are they much the same,
the 3com is much better looking but its speed i need

I haven't heard there's anything in them to be honest, I have a 3Com mx and it's fine, does the job, but I haven't heard any one doing comparative tests and coming down in favour of one or the other.

[Reality]

Its very hard to say which is better, most of us only ever get to use one model/make and so can't compare it with others. Also the 3com one and motorola are new models, and so not many people have them.

What I can say is that I have ben using the 3com CMX (earlier model to the one now) for about 5 months and its been fine. In fact I dont think its been unplugged for about 4 months :)

I would say go for the 3Com, i haven't unplugged my CMX fro over 2 months, and a friend has the new version, it really looks great.

right m8te let me tell you a bout my horror story with global direct NTLs modem supplier ..
ive have had 4 yes 4 cable modems from global FFS 2 3 com shark finns .. n 2 motarola surf board modems all dont work .??????????????
BUT the engeneers 3com cmx cable modem works above my expectations its unreal .
the story goes that the 3 com modem shark finn has stopped being supplied couse its to sensitive n the motarola 1 its just plain ****e but i wonder why the engeneers modem works propley . ????

I hate to say this as it's so blindingly obvious, did you remember to register the modems eithernet/mac address over the phone.

I only ask because a friend got one and was very upset because he thought it was bust, he'd forgotten to register it over the phone to get it autherised for the network.

again sorry if this is a stupid post, it's just that it's happened to someone i know, he didn't RTFM ;)

yea m8te 4 diffrent modems 4 different number but the funny thing is ,
is that the engeneers modem works but i didnt even ring that mac number in i just tryed it on the off chance n it works ?????????? weird or what .!?

the engineers one is switched already, they use them to test the installs have gone alright ;)

i would say you've been very unlucky :(
either that or the delivery peeps have been playing modem ball ;)
