If you go too the adventurers mart when you come out of the cave in act one there is a picture of hank from that old Cartoon Dungeons and dragons just up the stair case ,which also has a description saying that the young group where slain by a dragon called Tiamat :)

Cool eh? :)

It made me chuckle and I'm glad I'm not the only one old enough to remember the cartoon in the first place :)

I don't think remembering the cartoon is anything to be ashamed of... I used to watch it, and I'm eighteen which is hardly old and doddery :)

Oh, btw, you know who Tiamat is? She's the evil dragon goddess/queen in the DragonLance sagas.

Oh, another thing that made me smile was the Blair Witch Project parody in the Umar quest :)

Jan and his various 'stylish' inventions are also hilarious.

Although, Bioware should suffer for that whole 'you shouldn't stow thrones in grass houses' line... Anyone else seen that?

Tiamat - isn't she also the Chromatic 7 headed Dragon out of the old AD&D Monster Manual? Head honcho of all the evil Dragons.

The whole BG/IWD/BG2 thang has rekindled my interest in D&D - which I haven't played for a few years. Have found all my old stuff - boxed Basic and Advanced D&D, 1st Edition AD&D books (Players, DMG, Monster Manual, Monster Manual 2, Fiend Folio, Unearthed Arcana, Oriental Adventures, Wilderness Survial Guide, Legends and Lore) and my 2nd Edition Players Handbook.

Went out and got the 3rd Edition Players and DMG yesterday.

Started a campaign with 5 players last week, playing once a week with plenty of booze and munchies :)

Correct Gadget,

Taimat is the name of the chromatice dragn, unique leader of the Evil Dragons, named for the fact that she has five heads - one for each evil colour (blue, black, green, white and red).

Her nemesis is Bahamut, the lawful good Platinum Dragon, and the leader of all that is good.

Am I sad or what? :E

btw, the Evil Godess in the Dragonlance series is Takhisis, fairly similar to Tiamat...

Isn't Bahamut also the dragon who appears in various guises throughout the Final Fantasy games?

Gadget - What's the 3rd Edition AD&D rules like? I've been playing 2nd edition for so long, I'm not sure it's worth switching to the new rules, it's the thought of having to buy all those new books :{

From what I've heard, 3E is less unwieldy than 2E, which can only be a good thing. Easier to find players if they're not being put off by manuals the size of barn doors that contain fifty exceptions for every actual rule. Not that I'm complaining, 2E has served me well over the years :)

The core second edition books were ok, but when all the hand books came out... Dwarves, Elves, Fighters, Wizards, etc... There were so many kits and everyone had a different rule book. Like you said, far to complicated :{
