View Full Version : I may be closer!!
Rang the BTOpenworld help desk earlier this morning and they gave me my original password, seems the one shown on my Welcome Pack was wrong, it should have been the original password that I picked when confirming my order on the webby :bonce:
After changing the password and DISABLING DNS (different to what I was told by BT help desk ealier yesturday) I can now connect but cannot get to any webpages
Rag the help Desk again just now and there is a message saying that they are currently having problems with BTOpenworld that is effecting get this, it will make you laugh......Connection and e-mail and web pages  is there anything else??
Still looking for a ADSL peep to get in touch via ICQ ad go throught their setting with me ta!
By the way i took two days off work for this, it's not half way through the second day and I still haven't managed to see a web page load or see what my ping will be like.
There's consolation in the fact that I now have a great green squid like modem tat makes a great ornament:(

Well apparently the HG server is encountering problems. However I seem to have connection problems every day. These problems manifest themselves by showing that you are connected but being unable to do anything with the connection.

Nice 1 Big D!! :)
Hows your CS pings?
Im still sitting here like a pumpkin waiting for my invite :(
Just now I actually phoned BT and had a little moan. The operator said she would take my details and email order management and i should get a reply in next 2 weeks! Im not holding my breath but maybe things might get moving now!
Im gettin hpb blues now cos it seems everyone is converting to broadband cept me! :bigcry:
Hmm BT a...could be lies :D
Nice one Big D.
My provisional inst date is Monday and not heard whether or not I've passed me line test :hmph:
Think I'll give 'em a ring tomorrow after work.
Yeah do it mate, that's how I found out:D
The only trouble is since the install it hasn't worked, problems BT's end.
:(
Good luck, I managed to get on thro Openworld for an hour and really flew, pinged average of 33 in Q3 but didn't have time to d/l anything, the few web pages I went to loaded so quickly it was unbelievable.
If you have any questions about the install post another message.
After an 10 mins bouncing round help desks, then qtr hour waiting in the q on the order management line, I got thru and after exchange of details, the chappie said ah yes, provisional inst date on the 23rd, tho' i knew that and that it was waiting on a line test. He said, " Oh, can you hold while I contact the engineering Dept?"
Sure after an hour on the phone. He came back 2 mins later saying that I'd passed me test, the engineer was booked for 1st thing Monday morning and he'd put a welcome pack in the post.
Now one very happy chappy
We've been through all the problems here so if you get any problems get in touch.
Couple of things mate to remember, cos the Openworld/USB modem is a little different, this in a perfect world is how it SHOULD go....
1. Engineer calls you on day of install to confirm that you have passed the "woosh" test,
2. Engineer turns up and tests the modem/line with his laptop at the main socket in ya house,
3. Test goes fine and he installs necessary telephone cable,
4. He tests the the newly install line again with his laptop and your green squid like modem,
THIS IS NOW WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IN ORDER
1. You DO NOT PLUG YOUR MODEM INTO YOUR PC STRAIGHTAWAY
2. You boot your PC and pop in the Alcatel USB Modem CD into your drive, install the necessary software,
3. Then and only then plug in your modem <----important,
4. 2 Green lights appear on modem 1 light says USB port active/OK and the other says the ADSL digital socket is functioning right,
5. Install Openworld software,
6. Double click either BTOpenword DUN or Internet Explorer Icon shoule connect in a moment and you will be enjoying the benefits of the lovely broadband access
