max fps running quake 3 121
please dont tell me its my config
ive tried turning everything as low as i can
ive even tried picmip 16 (ugly) and 121fps is the best i can do. and no com_maxfps wasnt set to 120
i used to get 90 fps with my old tnt2
is this normal or is my card ****ed :(

Firstly, what res and colour depth are you running in?
What benchmark did you use?
If you're running at 1024x768x32, then your fps is fine.
I have Athlon T-Bird 800 and GeForce DDR and I only get 85 FPS at that res.
'Proccy' is your processor, or CPU :E

yea sorry i should have put that in my first post
color depth 16 bit
texture quality 16 bit
resolution 640x480
vertex lighting
texture filter bilinear
demo002 121fps
and everything else as low as it can go in my config
i assure u my config is fine :) i thought maybe there was something wrong with my g card as my bro can get 165 fps and thats with much higher g settings (1024X768) although he does have a athlon 700 but i thought i could get more than 120 with setting so low
demo002 defualt q3 settings 59.1 fps :(
thanks for your help :)

Yep, I reckon your processor is the bottleneck.
Spec it up a bit and you'll probably see a small improvement.

b:(ll:(x should have got a new cpu and mobo instead of a g card
oh well
thanks anyway

as u already have a p3 ure mobo will prolly support more recent coppermine/celeron2 chips with a bios update and fcpga->slot1 adapter
and yes a 64meg gf2 is hugely overpowered for a sub-500mhz cpu. a gf2mx 32meg would prolly get the same fps....
whats amount of frames can the human eye pickup anyway ?
surely thats excessive.
Yep 30. Any more than that is just a waste. (Looks impressive tho)
Mmm this 30 FPS eye thing....
I had PII450 256mb and TNT2 M64 card, it gave around 30 fps in HL at 640x480
Now I have a Duron 700@900 GF2 and get 80+ FPS on 800x600 in HL and my game/aim has improved considerably.
It is far smoother with all those extra frames.
Those extra frames help alot when there is loads happening on your screen m8 so it aint a waste.
Oh and it IS your CPU m8, take it from me, been there, done it , got the T-Shirt :)
On Q3 with Medium/high detail getting 160fps @ 800x600

The only can only see about 30fps like everyones said.
As for games they vary wildly, one second they'll be pumping out 200fps as theres naff all on the screen or your 2" from a wall then suddenly have to draw a whole new room and fps plummet then you notice it also factors like loading textures off the HD have to be considered and the refresh rate of the screen, look at 100hz tv's.
If you can get your graphics card to pump out a constant 40fps no matter what your doing or whats on the screen then you won't notice a bit of difference between that and 2000fps but it seems to be the norm to go for the highest fps just because it must be better.

My God - are you braindead or something - sorry to insult you but someone has to otherwise we'll not get your attention !!
YOU HAVE A GEFORCE 2 64meg GTS
That should be nuff said but I doubt it.
When I had the 32 meg version of that card in my PIII 450 I could get 80fps demo 1 (which it the normal benchmark btw - not demo 2) at ... wait for it, waaaitt for ittt ...
1024x768
32 bit colour
32 bit textures
Everything else whacked as high as it can go ...
I hope you arent actually playing the game like this cause if you are then you are a total moron. Listem to what Calzor says - he has hit the nail on the head 100%
I hope you don't play games at the settings you posted - if you do play with them higher then consider this line an appology - if you dont, get your old TNT back and give me the Geforce you fool !!!
(btw - I'd suggest increasing the qualityi in little iddy biddy steps, you might hurt your eyes and/or have a heart attack otherwise :E )

No need to insult the guy m8 :hmph:
but it might be better to forget about all these benchmark tests and go for what looks good.
I play UT on a PIII 450, TNT2u at 800x600 in 32bit colour with all the sexy stuff turned on and it flys along and never slows down no matter how mad I go :naughty:.
What fps do I get? not got the foggiest and couldn't give a crap as it looks awesome and thats all that matters to me :E
Yeah around 30 is the max for the human eye...but i swear the reason is coz when loadsa stuff happenes it drops so u need it high so it don't drop below 30.
Thing is i have a p3 500 128MB ram with a TNT and when loadsa stuff happens the frame rate goes up in q3a.....thats what it seems.....god knows.....maybe coz the machine is over powered for the graphics card......and i have never done any tweeking at all....me gets around 27fps.....maybe i should look at that setup screen one day......hummmm.....

Paddy read what i said in my first post please!
with my old tnt2 i got 90fps with my geforce to i get 120
i thought maybe i should get more, being as my bro can get 160+ with higher settings.
i thought maybe there was something wrong with my card
but thats not the case.
my bro gets more because he has a much better cpu.
end of story
now **** off and moan at someone else u t1t

Paddy there is no way with a p3 450 and geforce2 32 mb you got 80 fps at that detail. You must have had some other options turned down as looking at other hardware specialist sites that benchmark geforce2's you are scoring way to high for that detail level and all things turned on.
Can you explain it abit more paddy?

Okay sorry to be a complete arse, but ARE YOU SCREWED IN THE HEAD?! Did your mother drop you on your head as a child? Why the bloody hell are you whinging?! 121 frames per second ffs! Are you seriously trying to tell me that you can notice differences in fps that high?!
Mong.

OK - I forgot to mention the fact that I had the PIII clocked to 585 and the memory on the GF2 to 380mHz - you can do it if you try ...
btw larma - I have re-read your original post and no-where does it state that you play with higher detail - it does, infact, imply the opposite. Nor have you corrected it and stated that you play at higher detail so, if you put things into perspective, you are the tit ...
