It was my understanding that the TNT2 was supposed to be a reasonably acceptable card, however it appears to be struggling to get more than 15fps in HL (OpenGL 640x480). Direct3D fps = 5!
The PC spec is 500mhz with 128mb ram (32 shared to on board vga), I'm sure this should be capable of more.
Anyone got any ideas?
the TNT2 is a good card but not when it shares system memory, system memory is much slower than having dedicated memory. The sharing also means you only have 96mb available for games but that shouldnt affect HL much.
you really only have 2 options,
1. disable the tnt2 and get a voodoo 5500 PCI or geforce mx pci (when ever they come out)
or 2. replace the motherboard and buy a dedicated AGP card within your budget, again Id settle for no less than a geforce mx.

With a Creative 3DB TNT2 Ultra 32MB in a PII 300MHz I get 30-50 fps with DirectX in counterstrike, which is not mindblowing but is very playable.
Make sure you are measuring FPS using the console command "cl_showfps 1". Do not use netgraph - it robs you of huge amounts of FPS
