ok 7 days ago i baught a Freecom CD-RW from (ok im sorry for this) PC World, and got them to install it for me. It worked fine, writing data, audio and copying CD's for the first 3 days, but then it broke on saturday;

i was trying to copy Californication (legally BTW, i do own it) and it wrote the table of contents but then it "wrote" all of the tracks in about 3 seconds, then said there was a source error.

now i thought that was fair enough, i obviously was't allowed to copy the CD, but it has stopped working now giving the same error message no matter what i try to write to it, data audio or copying. Sometimes it starts to write the table of contents and then restarts the computer. I tried reinstalling the software, running scandisc etc, but nothing has fixed it. The software is called something like "Easy CD Creater 4"

Also, once or twice, i have put my D2 CD in there and it has run the auto startup screen and when i clicked play, it said the CD was not detected. This seems to have stopped now though.

I then thought about drivers, but i dont seem to have a CD with drivers on them, so have any of you got any ideas on what i should do, aside from taking it back to PCW and getting them to do it? I live miles away and can't really do without the puter for a few days as i have leagues etc to run.

Thanx all

Jamesie

Easy CD creator 4 has had quite a few patches out since release and they might help, try here (http://www.adaptec.com/support/advisor/cdrupdates/ecdcversions.html) but if PCWorld :mad: fitted it shouldn't they fix the problem? Not sure what there warranty on that sort of thing is like.

Also Easy CD Creator isn't particulary good at disk to disk, good at individual tracks and re-arranging etc but you might want to have a look for CDRWin for disc to disc backups, and no warez links guys please :smokin:

so the general feeling is its the software and not the CD drive itself then?

Nah were just playing boys with toys :E

If you have Easy CD creator anyway, try the updates and if that dont help take it back to PCWorld and get them to look at it or replace the drive there and then, don't let them send it off or say leave it with us we'll repair it as legally if the goods aren't of saleable worth then they have to replace it or refund you in full.
