Hi all
Having secured myself a job on Tuesday as an IT technician in a primary school (whoopee, at last :) ). I have one week before I start, so I was wondering if some kind soul could point me in the direction of any books or other data sources that cover any of the following areas:
1. Intranets - Also how to give access to web pages offline for several computers over a network. (I was thinking of using the offline browser function, however someone may know of a better way?) Bear in mind the information has to be shared across a network.
2. How to manage, fix and any other area that needs to be looked at regarding a NT network/school situation. I don't know if the individual computers have hard drives it may all be server based so any info on installing software that way would also be appreciated.
Even if you can't think of anything for the above any other info will be very, very gratefully received. I just need some advice as I'm starting to worry :{ I have over committed myself and I want to do well at this.
It may sound as though I know very little but I have been running my own mini network at home for some time now and I just need to make sure I have some information to take along with me in case I get stuck.
The reason behind all this, is because they haven't exactly told me what I am going to do, simply because they don't know much about computers, so maybe now you can understand my apprehension.
Also does anyone know any place where I can get a cheap (if that’s possible :D ) version of Windows NT4, I assume I can use Workstation version at home and they will have the server version at the school but is there really that much difference? I don't have that much cash at all at present so I doubt there is a cheap version out there, but you never know :) .
I'm sorry if I take up too much space on here so if you guys get fed up with me then feel free to tell me and I will cut it out. I couldn't find a book forum so I hope this is okay to post here? I'm only doing this because I want to make it as easy a transition for myself as possible and do my best.
Be warned though I may need to post again :)
Hmm I just hope I remembered everything, if you think I have missed something then please tell me :)
I think I may have gone overboard here but I just want to set a good impression.
Thank you for taking the time to read my babbling :D
