Lo peeps,i bought bg2 yesterday, and happily opened up the box thinking "what a cracking ame this looks",alls well,i do a full 2.5gig install(m33p),configure the options for the spec of my pc.....

start the game up,wow this looks good methinks...balh de balh....ok,so i get into the 1st bit of the game,by the prison cells, watdh the mad mage bloke kick **** into my char....then watch imoen come and rescue me...when all thats done,i start moving about ok fine...quite jerky but still playable.....i go over to talk to the other chars,erk...mouse starts going all over the place, what seems to be lag..or something,(im playing in single player btw,not tried multi).....so i think this is a bit crap..i carry on for a bit.....move sw towards the 1st bit of comabt in the game...and great...1st monster that shows up...my pc virtually grinds to a halt!!!

Ive played it for abit now,but not only has this "slowdown" caused me to die lots...it makes the game highly un enjoyable:(

Wtf is causing this?

My machine specs are:

Cpu:AMD 400 K6-2
RAM:128 megs
HD:20 gig ibm 7200rpm deskstar...
Video:Voodoo3 3000agp
Sound Card:SB Live Value

I run BG2 in 800x600 res, with 3D card support, ive dled the latest GLsetup and drivers, everything else runs fine, ive fiddled with my FPS in bg2,my pathfinding nodes,i put my cahce upto 1 gig even but it still runs crap, ive also tried running the game in 640x480 res,but it runs no better, and the jerkiness seems to get even worse. My system is free of viruses etc as i have norton2k.

I tried running it using the lowest spec in the sliding bars bit of the BG2 Ccfg proggy, but this makes no diff...as i say,ive fiddled with nearly everything to noi avail:(

Ive also tried running it ina window...i wont try that again:)

As u can see, my pc is pretty capable of running it according to the rec specs.....i play Half Life,Quake 3,Unreal Tournament,Kingpin etc,all run super duper,i get well over 60 fps on nearly all of them at any time, online as well, but my pc can barely run a 2D rpg?

I really really want to get into BG2,as it looks like a game ill really enjoy,so some1 plz help if they can.....

Wtf is it so jerky!!!!!

Turn off 3d support, it makes little/no difference to grahics and makes gameplay 1000000x faster/smoother.

My Athlon 700, 256MB ram, Gefore 256 struggled with it at 800x600 with 3d turned on, but runs it at 1600x1200 smooth as you like with it turn off. From what i can see the detail is almost identical.

TaRo's advice is good. I've heard from many sources that the game usually runs much better with 3D support turned off. I've nearly completed it on my P200 without too much trouble.

I've also heard about an issue with running the game with your virus scanner in the background. I forget the details and I don't know if it's relevant to you, but try closing Norton before you start BG2.

For that matter, using Ctrl-Alt-Del you could shut down everything except Explorer and Systray, to free up as many of your system resources as possible. But if you're playing online, *don't* shut down Rnaapp :)

oo...i'll have to try that 3d thing.... tbh i thought it dodgy including 3d support in a 2d game..but there ya go.

hmm i have had exactly the same problem with bg2 as flyweight i have a p600 ,voodoo 5500 card and it still slows down also when i run the game from the start menu it says that explorer has run an ilegal operation and wants to shut it down  but i will try running it without 3d support.
