View Full Version : C4's Angel Coverage

Man I am absolutely appalled by it.
Why the hell are they showing it at 6:00PM?
For a show that’s even darker than Buffy it makes no sense at all.
If anyone here has actually watched any episodes they will understand what I’m on about. 1-minute there’s about to be a fight the next second the fights done with us having seen none of it.

They manage to condense an hour show to 40 minutes – with adverts!
Me thinks Channel 4 get a bit carried when doing the ‘snip me-do’ editing.

In the US it’s shown at 9:00PM after Buffy.
Channel 4 decides to put it on pre-watershed, and to screen 2 episodes in advance of Buffy.
Buffy and Angel are supposed to run in sequence. The episodes cross-over several times during the course of this season – the first one of note (so far) being the one with the ring that allows vampires to walk in the daylight. But instead of being a pleasant surprise to see Spike in Angel after getting his ass whooped by Buffy, C4 total ruined it by putting it on 2 weeks too early.
By the time the BBC got round to showing it you knew the ring was gonna end up in Angels hands by the end of the program.

This week there putting 2 episodes on for some unknown reason starting the first of the two even earlier. Imagine the editing on that: Opening credits > Closing credits. Me sees snip, snip me-do.

Then again next week 2 episodes again this time with Buffy in it. But how are we supposed to follow the storylines?

I say we all gang up on C4 and demand that its put on in a later time slot and shown in sequence with Buffy on the BBC – Come on how hard can it be?
One phone call is all it takes.

So are you with me ?!?
If this thread gets any decent replies I gonna send it to Channel 4.

I hate them.
God dam it I really hate them.

Man I’ve ranted on longer than I wanted too. But someone out there must have a similar viewpoint or is it only me?

Al.

Pfffft...and you call yourself a fan ;)

Your rant is actually a well-rounded one, but one I've read some 6000 times in the 5 weeks since Angel premiered :)

Basically, a lot of letters have been sent to Channel 4, a lot of petitions signed, and it did get somewhere. The result was that, sometime in early 2001, Angel will be shown in its intirety at a later time slot. However, no actual timeslot was stated, so be prepared for the 3:00am slot methinks.

As for the crossovers, I think anyone who thought that C4 would deliberately work to tie-in with the BBC were kidding themselves. What possible reason could C4 have for doing that? To appease the fans? Why bother, I'm afraid, given that if people have Sky they'll have already seen Buffy 4 and Angel 1, and if they don't have Sky, then what alternative do they have but to fork out £60 on the two box-sets?

It's unfair, but what can really be done?

2001? So that wont be this series then. Typical, it's not like C4 are overwhelmed with quality programming which they put out at 3am :( I could stomach videoing it and watching a day later just to avoid all their ham fisted editing. At least when BBC2 edited Buffy they managed to avoid chopping any vital parts of the plot :{

I wish I had Sky Digital. I really do.

I hope they show the whole thing from beginning when they re-run in 2001. After watching just one episode of Angel I stopped, as the constant skipping bugged me so much (especally as the monster bashing is a big part of the fun). And seeing the crossovers start in Buffy weeks after they arrived in Angel is annoying too.

At least when I watch the full episodes re-run I won't have spoilt it by watching the cut downs now. No Sky for me, so I'll just have to wait.

C4 have lost a lot of respect from me over this :(

If you want to wath it properly, and weren't able to see them on Sky, then go and buy the boxed sets - its well worth it..

I reckon the Buffy and Angel DVD release shedule will depend on sales of the season 1 set. Hopefully, things going well, we should get a fairly rapid release of the following seasons until the DVDs match the VHS set releases.

I've said this before but its worth saying again

"Fox Video has finally announced that the first season of “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” is coming to DVD in the UK. The three-disc set will be released on November 27th. It has a RRP of £44.99, although some online retailers are already discounting this to about £32.
The disc set seems to have the same features announced for the Australian release (Joss Whedon commentary on the first two episodes, the Hepburn music video, etc).
The set will come in glossy packaging that will unfold into the shape of a crucifix.
No date has been announced for an American release."

Can't Wait.

Did you see the episode where Doyle dies??
What was the point in showing it if the parts that are essential to the plot, such as Angel snapping Demon Doyles neck and the peekling of his skin, flesh and bones to disintegration are cut out.

Hello?? Argh!!!
Oh look, Doyles on the floor and Angel is accepted by Nazi doods!

Oh look, Doyle has jumped on something and now Cordelia is crying. Where has Doyle gone?

Ok, so that was for people who havent watched the series before.

It's basically the attitude of British TV schedulers. I mean, look at the ****e that fills the screens between 7-9pm. Virtually all of it is pants. How many ****ing changing gardening room ****ing programs do we need? And, more to the point, how many ****ing no life assholes out there actually have the time to watch all this ****? It would be so nice if someone could just look at the US series they've bought and say, 'Hmmm, this is a little more adult in nature, 8pm is the time-slot for it. Schedule it there. But, no, US series belong at 6pm, 9-10pm, or buried sometime after midnight. This is the rule and it shall not be changed. :(

OH God Damn.
You should have posted this as a completly new message. Did Channel 4 actually advertise this change at all? Because i never saw anything.
Did anything actually happen in the first 20 mins? because as you may have gathered I missed it.

Its bad enough having to watch C4's edited highlights of Angel but when you haven't got sky what can you do.
