buff up before he comes into view, send 1 fighter down to him so he casts the web spell early then try lure him up to your party, try get an insects spells on him if you have a druid if not just go in hasted and try melee. A good tactic that works against all dragons is when 1 fighter builds up some agro so that he is getting pounded make him run off, the dragon will follow a while and the rest of you are getting free hits on him. Repeat till he dies..

I always find he wing-buffets me if I try to get into close combat. I defeated him on the second try - didn't bother with haste (it only improves your initiative roll in BG2, doesn't increase your number of attacks) but cast Bless, Chant, Protection from Evil, Resist Fear, Armour of Faith, Chaotic Commands and any other protection spells I had memorized.

Then Minsc charged in with boots of speed waving a pair of maces, accompanied by two skeleton warriors and a Fire Elemental, and kept him occupied while Imoen cast Lower Resistance on him and everyone else pelted him with missile weapons and flame strikes from wands. Once his resistance was lowered, we followed up with a Call Lightning and a few Magic Missiles, another flame strike or two, and Anomen charged in with the Flail of Ages after Minsc died.

Basically, just summon some monsters, throw everything you've got at him, lower his magic resistance if possible, and resign yourself to one or two losses - by this stage your cleric should be able to resurrect them.

I hate having people die in battle for some reason so prefer to reload so that I can do it without deaths.

As for haste, you sure it does'nt increase number of attacks? if not why bother using it heh. Or is it because speed boots seem to give permanent haste in BG2 where they just increased movement in BG1?

I think the way to dit it if you dont want to kill it is to put all your equipment on the floor apart from a few arrows if your generous and then let hi m tale those :)

just stay out of site and fire death fog and cloudkill at them, takes abit of time though they will die and you won't get a scratch. It is a very lame way to kill dragons and you won't get any satisfaction at all, though my 2nd party which was mainly made of spellcasters did'nt have much other choice in killing them.

Sorry, it seems I was partially wrong about Haste. It:
Doubles movement rate
Affects entire party
Improves your speed factor by -2
Gives you one extra attack per round
After it has worn off, it tires the character as if they'd been working for a full 24 hours.

So it does increase your attacks, but it doesn't double them so it's not as powerful as in BG1

The sixth level spell Improved Haste, on the other hand:
doubles movement rate
Affects only one character
Improves speed factor by -2
Doubles number of attacks
Doesn't fatigue the character after duration expires.
