Well first off you want to finish all your games on the hardest setting! Although that really wont prepare you for online gaming.

Ah how many people who thought the where Gods at there games only to enter the world of online gaming and get their arse's well and truly kicked (Grrrr lpb scum).

The only way you can get good at DM is to play it, a lot if you want to compete with the best international players you are going to have to practice a whole lot, and even then you just might not have the skills to go all the way. But it is best not to play for money the only good reason to play is for fun, try not to take things to seriously and don't get all narky when you getting your arse kicked by some lpb scum

Hiding is sometimes referred to as camping there are many kinds off camper; Spawn campers, weapon campers or just plain old fashioned sit there with a r/l and kill every1 who walks into you stream off rockets camper. There are no more hated people on the servers then campers.

However sometimes it is best to sneak about crouch down somewhere and wait for you enemies to run past then nail 'em with a railgun... just as long as you don't do it over and over again you wont be called a camper. :E

Yep, practice is all.
And playing against real people is way harder than any game AI setting...they have a habit of doing the darndest things.

And when you can beat everyone in the wireplay servers in 1-on-1 games (much harder than normal stuff as there is no-one else to distract the others away from your camping)... THEN maybe you can consider trying to win money...maybe

Just get into the servers, make friends (and they will help you get better) and enjoy it.

And if you see me, don't forget to stand still and wave until I acknowledge you (possibly with a head shot :E )

It will be the best practice Brock. If your new it doesnt matter what connection or PC you have you'll get totally thumped and you will be left thinking what the hell was that.

The jump from single player hardest to online dm or teamplay is immeasureable. I remember when i finished HL on medium then i thought i'll get online, bloody hell was i in for a shock. Only thing to do is practice and you'll soon begin to compete.

Then other factors start to encroach on your play, You connection, your pc spec, your key layout, your mouse refresh rate. If you have all these set to absolute perfection you'll still get creamed by some people. Now when you manage to beat these people you can start to think to yourself that you've made it to some decent standard in the online gaming world.

Then all confident you'll come up against some guy you dont know who'll cream you :) and you'll think feck this i thought i was going to be another thresh but i aint gonna :)

Don't i know it!!! i've only had Unreal Tournemount a few months and have practiced and played a lot. I thought last night i'd welcome myself to the world of online gaming via Wireplay. Boy did i get my ass kicked!!!!! i think i managed about 1 or 2 kills in about 4 games!!! my ping rate wasn't to bad just a slight delay but these other guys were damn good!!! oh well back to the drawing board!!!

I know how you feel m8. I've been playing UT a couple of months now and for the first few games I never had a score greater than zero.

But then I discovered the sniper's rifle - this allowed me to practice aiming quickly and getting a shot off asap, as well as being able to look around levels and learn the hiding places and sniping points.

After a while I started improving. Currently on UT I'm something of a random factor - sometimes I suck badly, other times I rock sooooo much earthquakes happen... :cheese:

The last time I was seen on a UT server was on a ctf_face only server specialising in 'counter-sniper' teaching all those camping noobys a lesson

That is what I hate about UT every1 want to be a sniper, there you are running along quite happily with flag in hand and all you hear the ping ping off a hundred sniper rounds hitting the ground all around j00 it is so annoying

Unless off course your the one on the other end off the sniper rifle. :E

I make a point of never being the sniped, only ever the sniper :)
