ok it seems that I have been publically chasticed for my geek comments over the last few days. All I am trying to point out it that there was more to the day than simply winning the cash. [JRDF] had an ace day out and had lots of fun, as it seems did the monks and the zulus. Not winning meant jack to me as the day was so cool. However part of the fun was to socialise with your opposing team. Now our first two games were against [e-h-uk] and the headshot clan who were both fun to play against. I'm just trying to say that if you are 32-1 up against us surely you can have a laugh us at the spanking you are dishing out? Surely the true spirit of gaming is not who wins but the enjoyment? Trust me if we had been sooooo far ahead then the opponents would get a friendly ribbing! It appears that this is not just my opinion but a generaly held view, Maybe this demonstrates the need for separate am and pro events? The ganging up of clans against the "geeks" shows the different philosophies held by the entrants so surely both sets should have their own tournaments. one full of monks zulus and [JRDF]'s and one full of er.... [highly spiced & sexually dangerous](is that right?). At least both would be there for the same thing. Maybe even create a purely social event? 32 teams playing each other for the hell of it with no winner or grand prize? I know I (and my clan) would attend just for the fun of it (and some nice new banners heh heh). Ok well the geek thing shall be laid to rest forever. Glad to hear anyones opions on the social thing - I think it would be a great idea.

Actually JRDF i kinda agree with you, there was a divide of clans who were there purely for a laugh (ie you guys) and clans who were there mainly to win (ie us).

But then again £2500 is a serious prize ya know :), maybe it would be an idea to make clans qualify or something over the internet to be able to participate, and have more 'fun' tournaments with lesser prizes?

I agree, if y'all dont chill with the bickering then other forum goers who might have been interested in attending a LAN Tourney, wont, 'cos of the hostile atmosphere you guys are creating :(

Its a fundamental fact of life that some ppl play to win solely for the rewards that it brings, others play for the sole purpose of fun. Personally I play for both, playing is fun, but if you can win £2500 at the same time, Im gonna go for it (some of us have bills to pay).

As for the "geeks" comment, the apology is noted, but, you should really think before flexing your amateur psychological stereotyping muscles, as you dont know any of us, didnt speak to many of us etc. etc.

It's not the fact that some people go out to win, we can understand that. We went purely to have fun, and were well impressed with ourselves when we got into the quarters.
But now we get **** for being a crap clan who can't play the game, just because we only went for fun.
Well, sod them. I'm going to go again, the rest of my clan are going to go again, and if we get knocked out in the first round it won't bother us too much, because we are just there for the gaming.
It is just a game, as my girlfriend keeps telling me a 2am.

Actually, Venom, this is going back a fair way (way, way before the Geek comments,) but [JRDF] didn't start it, someone else did by saying "All we got was a typed HaHa" and then proceeding to have a go. That thread got so bad that it's now deleted, we're just the only ones left carrying it on (mainly because, hell, it's quite funny when you read them all).

The excitment of this post defies logic :)
