surely you do it thru the security feature in IIS5

either that or you setup security thru explorer on each of the folders, then depending on who you log on to the FTP as you then see the right folders

no he means that his webspace hosts are using Windows 2000 servers and he wants to know how to password protect some directories, he doesn't have access to IIS5!! :)

 I don't understand the question?

What exactly is it that you're trying to do (if it's not a rude question)?

If Deathwish is right, then surely your folders on a hosts machine should already be password protected - don't you have to enter a password when you ftp your webpages?

Yeah- i have access to the FTP server of the webhost. I myself have different sub,sub-directories for sites i have made. and i want to give certain people access to certain folders. is that ok?

I assume you have ftp access to your directories, rather than the entire server. If you do have access to the entire server then that's a pretty big security flaw.

Alas, I doubt that any webhost would allow users to setup password protection, other than passwords that they [the webhost] set up. You could ask them, however I'd be careful and read your contract with them as it may state that only you can upload to your webspace.

Of course if you **TRUST** the person to upload pages (and not screw up your own pages), you could give them your ftp password and point them in the direction of their directory.

Hope this helps...:smokin:
