It seems this has been a problem for some people too so has anyone got any ideas beyond (stuff I have tried):

1. Latest drivers
2. Re-install AA
3. Update Windows/system file check
4. Check resource conflicts
5. Manually set and juggle IRQ/DMA settings around
6. Restored Data.all from july
7. Adding old Dos stuff into my autoexec(doesnt work and buggered up sound everywhere else)
8. Shouting
9. Swearing
10. Drinking

I've had this problem a lot of times, no idea why it happens. It seems AA sometimes loses the ability to find the soundcard and therefore defaults to sound-off. If you go back into options/sound, you can turn it back on again. That's my experience anyhow, may be very different for you.

Just posting to top this one more time :)

ta for suggestions

Reinstalled DX as part of me Win update

I check the sound options before I fly and it is on, can it turn off after that? If so, can i turn it back on in game?
