Wat is the lowest ping anyone has ever got with a diamond supra express 56e pro?

Just under 100 i think.....but that was on MPZ (their own dialup - like WP used to be) and on a TFC server without anyone else ! Still, i was quite impressed :)

um atm there is a thing going round the TFC forums about this. Infact it seems that with TFC u can get the scoreboard to show a ping of as low as 72!!!! however if u use netgraph it shows your "real" ping as being higher.

The commands are something like:

cl_updaterate 5

and some other one :)


The best ive ever got my netgraph ping is no way near this low though....

My TFC pings are usually way up in the 270's :|
I got 117 in Q3 once, but I usually find Jolt connect is ultra-l33t. It doesn't give lowest ping but it sure is stable!

I once got 40ping for a few mins on FreeServe, But norn get 150-170ping. Sometimes if I dont move my ping drops to 120.

Unless it was a VERY local server I don't believe 40 ping on a normal modem, especially for minutes. Perhaps 1 or 2 seconds might pass - but minutes.... no offence, but I don't think so.

Does any one have any tips for lowering the ping time apart from those on Slimes web site ?
I have tried all of these and also using rate and cl_cmdrate.

/snaps 30 (or 40 depends on server)
/cl_packetdup 0 (1 if it is a bad connection)
/cl_maxpackets 35 (or 30 if packetdup is 1)

try cl_nodelta should show a 0 ping in q2 keeps the other players guessing. on the modem side I got a diamond supra 56k ex today and my ping droped from 320 to 150 without ant tweaks :)

Erm cl_nodelta isn't a good idea, it stops DELTA COMPRESSION so you get major lag. Try it and see :O

I ping as low as 130 if nothing is happening and 220 to 280 in large battles. That is if it is a good server and on bt 0800.

Ahh i remember when i used to get 110 pings...
well those days have gone, 3 modems later and bad flash upgrades later, a pc that is fecked and my supra without its power adapter going to waste.
200 for me now, great :(

Does it matter much? Your idle ping is fairly pointless, what matters is your ping when you're actually fighting. And all modems I've found, no-matter how low ping they are idle, shoot straight up into the 200's or even 300's when in a fair sized battle. I get 500 or even 650 in 16 player CTF :|

err i got a lucent chipset on a zooom modem and be4 i moved i connected at 52666 on wp direct, sometimes my ping was 118, now i have moved 15 miles down the road my ping has doubled, my connn has had a 25 % reduction ie 44000, i personally think a good modem is not gonna sort out yer ping and PL, it is your line and exchange, ffs BT sort it out u skanky besterds

Q3 and UT calculate or estimate pings in different ways. No one is really sure how Q3 does it, but it is most likely based on your settings and your initial challenge ICMP response.
UT calculates it by doing something with the frame rate... Don't ask me anymore I don't know much about UT.

The big fact is, they both lie about your ping. It is not your REAL ping. Could you imagine the speed of the game if you were constantly pinging everyone? The only way to get an ACCURATE ping/pl count is to use the ping dos tool or something similar.

Just go Start->Run and type

ping -n 10 <game_server_ip>

And it'll ping it ten times, give you an average, and packet loss amount. Sorted.

I tried putting my cl_updaterate up to 100, and now when (in CS) I press tab, it says my ping is around 200-300. But in the netgraph it says that my ping is hovering around 80-160.

Which one is correct? Also, are there any other things to tweak in CS?

Bit late but btw 40 ping on 56k goes against the laws of physics :E
yu musta imagined it,or the game has a more than dodgy way of reporting ping.

When i start a server for just me and me m8 1 on 1

my ping is 0 why is this?

Because you are hosting the game, the commands you sent (eg fire) only have to go as far as your machine - giving near as dammit 0 ping. He still has 150 ping though because he is still remotely connected and still has to send commands to your machine and back again.

on me own not moving i achieved 115 ping


in battle walking around 130-140

shooting people as well ...is depressing 180-200+

on a diamond supra express pro E as well :(

Well its not a supraexpress just a brandless 56k external modem but right after the HL netcode update (when hardly anyone was on the servers and hardly anyone had got beta 6.5 yet) I got ping of 130 ish average dropping to 108 in HL:op4 with about 6 or 7 peeps in the server. All the way back up to being a HPW now :( 160 low 180 av 210 high.
Grr WP service is not nearly as good as it used to be 'in the good old days' hehe, nostalga alert :)

As said 5 billion times b4, a stable ping is more important than a low one. So ISDN or better players not only have advantage from lower pings but stabler ones too. The more stable it is, the more you can get used to it.

The other day I say a guy on a WP UT server with a consistant ping of around 8. I keep checking and it was arround that number for the whole game. What the hell was he using? I did not think that was possible, even on ADSL.
Could he have been a wireplay worker playing on there on servers where they are based?

Likely a LAN-like connection. Even T1 pings low of 15 usually. I saw ping 2 once :| Now that most certainly was a LAN connection.

My lowest ping using me trusty 56k on Kingpin was about 90. It holds steady at about 110 after about 11pm, during the day it all goes T!TS up tho :( Usually ping at about 160+.

I have a m8 who uses a 1 gigabyte LAN connection from the University of London, he usually pings at about 10-15. He lags at about 25!!! lol... I'd be happy playing with his lagged up ping :)

on wp direct i can get a constant 100ping on me Diamond 56e PRO during clan matches (14player svr) :) on the good old RHA it was around 140-160 on a 16 player public svr (full) but with bt connect its around 150-170 :( booooo to bt!

theres an ISP near me called "Totalise" that have a 1Gbps connection...


the fastest is 13Gbps, thats an OC-256...military prolly use those things :)

anyway, lowest ping...
on a barrysworld (R.I.P. barry:() i saw someone pinging a constant 6-9 in quake 2, he was using 2Mbps Frame Relay.

I use BT anytime, in UT I ping a steady 145-170. It hardly ever goes above 200, even in HUGE gun fights.

With UKOnline I pinged a steady 120-130 in 10 man LMS. I dont recall my ping ever going over 160. It hit sub 120 a few times. Im happy :)

Btw, if you think you had a sub 100 ping for a few mins, trust me, you werent. 110-130 is the best ping you will maintain on a 56K. If I trusted everything I see, I could say Ive pinged sub 40 many times.
