I'm going to buy a 56K SupraExpress pro I want a Internal one because it takes £20 pound of the price but I noticed on a thread it said not to buy a Internal ?WHY? would'nt they both just be the same apart from ones designed to go inside your computer and the other outside it or is it to do with these **** software modems (like the one I have at the Moment)My modem is a Genius GM56PCI-L which I think is a software because of the part that says PCI and L in other words LT (Lucent Tech which makes software modems). So should I buy this modem I know the external version is good but what about the Internal? Why Should I not buy a software internal 56K Supra Express Pro

Hi,

You don't want a software modem because they tend to use your PC's CPU to handle parts of the communications. Then, just as you really stress out your CPU (playing online) there's no power left for the communications stuff and you generally end up with a higher ping.

The reason i don't recommend the internal Supra's is that i'm not convinced they are true hardware modems. We've debated the internal Supra's many times on this board and i think we've come to the conclusion that they are part hardware and part software.

I know the externals are an extra 20 quid but you will definately know you have a true hardware modem and, let's face it, if you're gaming online then the modem is virtually the most important bit of kit in your setup.
