Anyone witha techy mind - Cobra/FB ?

right,

Dunno why but when my CD ROM is installed, half-life wont work. Along with that goes the fact counter-strike wont work. Not too bothered about that, but me wants Gunman Croncicals and so i need to get HL working.

Basically it works FINE when the CD ROM is not connected/detected. The moment is it, HL wont work, EVERY THING ELSE, EVERY other game does, but HL wont. So is there some clash between my CD ROM drivers and HL?

Basically, i go to start HL, it starts to load up from the CD (or at least checking the CD ROM, u can play HL without it, i have a full install) and it just freezes. NOTHING, i have to restart PC.

any ideas?

hmm,

I suggest Ij, you reinstall the lot,(half life) it appears your files see the hard drive as the main repository and not the cd..


only way around it is a reinstall of the files m8, (backup em up first,) then wipe and reload m8..

Hi IJ sorry never saw the thread.

What make CD and ver of driver M8.

I have come across this befor with CREATIVE CD ROMS and have downloaded the latest drivers from there site and all worked fine from then on, I know you will have done that M8, if you have not then do so.


There is a site where you can get a file that will allow the NO CD play of this and many other games.

This will get you up and running with the games.

cobra's right, if you run the no cd from http://www.gamecopyworld.com or http://www.megagames.com it'll solve your problem, i suffer from the same thing, its due to the copy protection half-life uses being very very picky about cd drives...

Do i want the IDE one or the VDX (or summit) ones, or both?

The CD ROM IS a creative one, its the 4834 FC101

If that dont work...try the Udfrinst program from adaptec. (I'll send it ya if ya like) This allows most CDRoms to read Most types of Cd's.inc CDRW, CDR etc.

Very handy proggy...honest!

well,
tried one of the patches, it modified the hl.exe so it didnt need the CD< ran the hl.exe and it did the same thing, locked up when trying to load the game.

easier justy to disconnect the fecking cd drive, lol

I've had the same problem IJ...

I've uninstalled HL completely... reinstalled it countless times to no avail. It's all since the latest patch for half life came out... had no problems up until that point.

Anyway... I'm trying download the FULL patch for HL now (instead of the little patches they release every 10 seconds)... hopefully it will sort the problems out.

FB can you also send me that "Udfrinst program from adaptec" that you spoke oof new one on me I think.
