I currently have a P3 500 flip chip in a slocket and I am wondering whether the Asus P3v4x would allow me to overclock this chip..... My current motherboard only allows a 112 fsb and therefor it is not exactly a speed increase. T

If I purchase a P3v4x can I run the fsb at 133 and the ram at 100 like you can on some of the other motherboards based on the via chipset, and what is the ram performance like of this board, because I hear that the via chipsets have poor memory performance?

Thanks for any information.....

I should state that I have 256 megs pc100 ram atm, and I also have a QDI BrillianX 1s/2k motherboard..... I don't know how good this motherboard was in it's day but I think that the time has come to either upgrade or overclock or something .....

Thanks again

Short answer is YES.

I got one and have a PIII 700 clocked to 910 with stock cooling and 1.7 core voltage.

Thing is though m8, it is probably not worth the dosh getting it.

There are no guarantees that you will be able to get the fsb of the PIII to more than 112, and its got to be quite an old chips so it wont overclock as well as the newer ones (like mine). You might get 600 or 650 at a puch but you might not. Is it worth £80 on a mobo to take that chance and only get quite a small speed increase?

Hey M8,

Well the chip was made in 1999 and is a coppermine..... the lowest speed one..... in a flip chip (fcpga 370 format) and so its not like it has the old cache or anything...... it has 256k atc?

I know - but you have to ask yourself what the fastest speed PIII was when it was made (about 700 i think), then thats about the most you can really hope to get and thats quite unlikely - just dont count your chickens !!

I've got a P3 500e on an Iwill Slocket 2 and a P3V4X. My cpu runs quite hapily at 142Mhz FSB (710MHz core). This is with the intel fan. I think most of the 500e are good overclockers.
