Ok I am running WinME on my main machine with Supra 56E pro and Win98 on my old a machine and the two are networked.

Internet connection sharing is on and has worked for 3 weeks without a hitch.

Now I was away, I get back my wife says she cannot access Net. So I dial in from new machine...

Everything is fine handshaking etc. but once connected no data flows in either direction no matter what no response from an net program.

I uninstall DUN and reinstall I set up a fresh DUN I try several ISP's to no avail...

So I try WInME modem trouble shooter (these are a real waste of space) at some point it suggest reducing modem port speed to 9600 from 115000. I try this and it works except it connects at 48000 (bout average for me).

I reboot and problem returns even tho port speed setting is 9600. I change port speed setting to 38000 ish and it works again and again at 48000.

This is officially the weirdest problem I have had.

I tried disconnesting my machine from other one but it had no effect so I dont think the problem is the network.

I dont really want to reinstall Windows if at all possible and I havent uninstalle dand reinstalled the modem cos quite frankly it connects up fine with no problem. I reckon its some arcane setting my wife has switched on my accident

So has anyone got any idea whatsoever????

Thanks

Odd

Make sure your running the correct drivers on your machine (ie the ME drivers)

The only other thing I can think of is the network setting have gone loopy.
Might want to reinstall them on both machines. (File and print sharing)

Check that your dial-up adapter hasn't been given the fixed IP address. I think that would cause the problem you mention.

Drivers are ones which were available in WinME

I plugged in Supra(After taking out softmodem) and WinMe found correct drivers for it no problem. It has worked for weeks for no problem and the internet connection sharing thing has also worked for 2 weeks. I may have to kill my wife (But I didnt touch anything is always her excuse)

As for IP... Well in Network settings in Control Panel that option does not appear in the Dial Up Adapter settings under WinME. That option appears under the folloowing protocol sections...

TCP/IP -> (Home) FOr Realtek PCI card

And it is set to specify an IP

TCP/IP -> Internet Connection Sharing

And here it is set to assign IP automatically.

I may completely uninstall all the network stuff on the new machine when I have a chance.

BTW logged in this morning .... nothing dead... SO I changed port speed yet again in modem properties , redialled and it works perfectly ....
