He has won a few lan tournaments, so he is good
but only has 64% efficiency with the ngstats I have seen

I want to know whether I will go to the lan with the expectation of walking away with £2500, or nothing.

WEll the overcomfidence came from the ngstats

in 1 week I got from 23,000 to 34 in DM

which means I am in the top 0.05% of UT players.

maybe I'll get my arse whipped, but I want to play Dougal online so I have an idea whether I should think about what I should buy now.

yeah dougal's pretty decent, but remember NG stats mean absoloutely nothing, no one bothers with them anymore, and the people who are up top are just stat lamers (who use exploits to get themselves up to higher positions).

Dougal is very good, but he is not the best thats Ive seen online. He has just managed to play well on the day, and that is what counts.
As for ngstats - they are only good as an indication. The stats give points because of your efficiency. That is good when playing TDM but not so good for tournaments where it doesnt matter how many times you die, just how many times you frag.
You also have to check who they are playing and how often.
It is easy to get to the top if you constantly play newbies or if you set up your own private lan. (yes [SDN]SpyroBlood Im refering to you)
And as Hades said a lot of top players have stats disabled. - you wont find any (recently departed) [VOID] tags on the stats
At the end of the day the chances are you wont win, so just enjoy yourself.

Chris (Dougal) is the best British player at Unreal Tournament I have ever seen. He won the PC Gamer championship at Lanarena in April, he won the Battletop tournament at the Dome in September and he won the lanarena challenge tournament 2 weeks ago.

Those that play know that playing online is completely different to playing at lanarena. Sitting @ home is one thing, playing in front of 300 people with your every move being shown live on a 8 foot square screen is totally another. You gotta be pretty cool to walk away with a lanarena prize. And Chris pulls it off every time.

JKJK if this is your first lanarena tournament then speak to anyone who has been and they will tell you that being there and enjoying the day is worth it, even if you get knocked out in the first round or get 5th place and miss out on a prize!! There are plenty of more PCs to play on upstairs while you're waiting!

Well that was about the time the recent CS tornament started so this will probably be about the same, does anyone know how many people are taking part I think it said something about a 250 people on the website but I was wondering if it was going to get that many, anyway it will be good to play without any lag for once

JKJK - If you really want to play against Dougal then try looking at Wireplays Deck16 only server. Ive seen him on that a few times this week.
Mind you one thing to remember is tournaments always climax in 1 on 1's where totally different tactics are needed compared to FFA's. And correct me if I'm wrong (which I've got a habit of being lately), this is where Dougal's strengths are. In the PC gamers championships he game second in the 1st 2 rounds of the tournament.

very much stronger in DM for me are these guys and 1 on 1 (as said before) when it comes to the crunch i havent seen dougal ever lose on liandri :/

so dont play him on that map or maps like turbine etc.

btw if u think he never played anyone decent on liandri... then think again :/

Look, u must not let his name scare u, otherwise u wont beat him.. when i played him, for once it was me scaring him :D
I came very close this tourney when i got to play him in the second round.. the game could not have been much more even.. it was about 28-28 at one point i think (on fractal)

He is very good, I think his dodging the best bit of his game. He also has good accuracy. just a very good all round game.

He has a VERY similar playing style to me it seems which is why we were so equal.. Im hoping to play him in the final of this one and get my revenge :P
For the second time, I was 0wning at a Lan tourney but failed to win mostly cos of bad luck with draw/map/settings etc (which were all stupid!)

As long as the tourney isn't totally based on luck of the draw / luck of the map they give u to play on etc.. I and many of u can beat him if u play well.

I have ni idea of how good I am. I dont play on the net much, only at some local LAN place. Im just going for a luagh w/my m8. Since I've never been in a UT tournament, I gotta ask if anyone has any idea of the maps that will be played? Since the only one I play is Deck 16, and I'l need practise on the others.
Didnt it say in PC gamer that it was going to be a Strike Force Tournament too?

pick 1 map each.. then nuetral map for decider.

Last tourney.. they chose the maps..

for my money the most important part of dougals game (on lan) is where u are playing him and for no reason at all he suddenly shouts "la la la" in a high pitched voice and completely puts you off your game :]

Me thinks this should be on one of the other threads, but to reply to Creepy:
The tourny you were at was purely 1v1. I hope for my sake that this one is not.The other tournament that they ran last year was 3 rounds of FFA with 8approx in each round. The top 2 went through. When there was only 16 players left it went onto 1v1.
The FFA were all played on codex. Cant remember what the 1v1 were played on. (I didnt reach that far)
I personally would prefer FFA as I dont play 1v1 often because of my high ping.
