Hi

My ISP is Freeserve and I am reliably informed that this ISP supports STAC compression. With this in mind I went through all the normal steps of turning off error control and enabling compression but when i check the details there is no mention of the compression being used. Any ideas why this is not showing?

Cheers

Hi,

Are you using surftime? If you are, I cannot get STAC compression to work either. If you notice in DUN the software compression box is automatically ticked (for me at least), but in order to get playable pings I have to turn on error control. Having said this the pings I get are quite good (150-180).

Hope this is of help.

btw in win 98 I dont know how to check whether stac compression is really being used - Im merely going by the pings I get. STAC compression for wireplay seems to work fine...(ping 110-150 :) )

Thanks

But by the way, I am not using Surftime. My ping is very bad. It ranges from 200 - 300. I am DACS victim so BT are not eaxctly my favorite company at the moment.

I do have error control off atm but it does not seem to make a difference to my ping. Looks like I will have to suffer until I get a cable connection. :(

Ta anyway.
