One of my first thoughts when I played this game was, I hope TF2 is like this. Then when I walking round trying to figue out the maps it sort of struck me

1) models very similar to the TF2 pictures
2) A very very polished mod for a first release
3) Ideas sound similar, promoting of teamplay (more than a lot of mods do)

+ a few more things

It's a bit of a thin argument, but I think because its so polished theres a voice in my head saying TF2 beta ;) I've also heard a few people say similar things while playing the game, so maybe...

Or am I just after some kind of conspiracy theory? :)

I wouldn't go so far as to say tf2 beta but valve did play some part in the mods creation, someone even said they finished off the mod at the hl mod expo?

beta was a bit strong, perhaps 'test' is better to try out some ideas away from the arcady feel of TFC..

Yeh i suppose its v.possible that some things (perhaps the lip sync for example?) were tested with tf2 in mind as both are roughly based on the same ideas.

if it is a beta or test then its the worest one ever this mod has so many problems its a joke :/ the maps are well dodgy too so many faults that can get your player modle stuck in :(

i though that too :/ still dont get away from that the other maps have serious bug problems that map is the only decnet one where you wont get stuck on a wall or creat or scuke into the floor :(.

it Could be fun but at the moment its just not

Thats funny - I've not had any problems with any of the maps yet

But theres a new patch out monday - i think that will sort out a few issues

M'lud, i present exhibit A :-

TF2 - More realistic mod using real life scenarios
FLF - As above

TF2 - Staged map scenarios
FLF - Multiple stages to each map then teams swop round

TF2 - Lip synching with real time voice
FLF - Lip synching with scripted commands

TF2 - Commander enhances morale and/or accuracy of nearby teamates
FLF - Enhanced health and accuracy when teamates are closeby

The case for the prosecution rests.

Cheers

On the case of Si_Se the court finds the defendant guilty now to think of an evil punishment

Good to see that there are others noticing the similarities between FLF and the reports of TF2, and i'm not going conspiracy theory mad.

/me picks up his new found tape showing aliens sitting on a grassy knoll, with a long line of cars in the background....

I thought 'TF2 beta' within an hour of playing it and i think its a good thing, obviously they are testing ideas on teamwork etc seeing if people use it and like it

Mi Lord objection to the right honourble Slim bloke

Lets take a further look at three current mods out all of them are well known as it stands now the mods being CS(Counterstrike)TF (Team Fortress) and ofcourse FLF (Front Line Force).

Now lets get into some detail here.

CS has been testing Vehicles and now has models that if you put a TF2 model in its place i would guess the stances are spot on aswell as the movement.

TFC has beent trying diffrent stage maps meet the objective and move on to next part of map another part of TF2 being tested in the earlier version also has the classes which a while where going to be used in TF2 but i think with major adjustments to them when the final release comes of TF2 the menus etc..all added to the other mods that are thier to help out the new player while hes/shes in game so no real manual fuss meaning you can jump in the deep end really with enough info on screen.

FLF as soon as i got onto a server it was village map my firt thought was this is a TF2 test(not everything but some elements) and also the team elements that are encourged are to be a factor in TF2 now if they are testing in all three of these mods the technology and gameplay elements as i suspect they are then expect to have seen a lot of TF2 when it comes out with added graphics and more emphesis added to team play they have the formula of a net game that is going to attract players from mods such as CS the original TF and also this one ,not mentioning others from Quake UT etc...

They are testing the playing field to get a feel of what works and what doesnt they would be crazy not to use what is allready at thier disposel our input and the mod makers er..mods and if certain things work before realeasing TF2 so that when they do release it it may not blow us away as a game of the future but it will keep us playing and the gameplay is addictive enough to keep us hooked to thier game imagine great visuals and added gameplay from all three mods sure fire winner with a whole host of diffrent game players who are all looking for the diffrent things but all the elements each of them is looking for are in one game.

Valve/Sierra are testing in these games in my opponion if you look at the popularity of each mod and ask why we play them ,each of them has something for everybody i dont think the TF2 makers will be sitting hoping that when they do release it they have the right elements, they will be sure that when they realease they have the game that sees them no1 by making sure the elements of the game work so how would they find that out well if i was them i would test little features of it in the top mods around they already have plenty of peeps to test thier theorys beats getting in a few monkeys who are gonna cost them to test the gameplay.

I rest my case.(damn joo Real why u have to ask:Pand hello m8ty)zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz

/Me waits for rebuttle witnesses brought forward by Slim:)hehe

Only one problem with your theories here, and that is, the games aren't made by Valve.

I doubt Valve has a subterranean network of closet mod developers all independently testing TF2 elements at the command of Gabe Newell or saaing. And if you'll look at the vehicles in CS, you'll notice that. .. well basically they're crap and they're hardly in v1.0. (lets face it, the APC has ruined seige).

What I would say, is that FLF represents the evolution of the team based FPS, nicking ideas from traditional class based mods (TF), Counterstrike (choice of kit-out, no weapon spawns), and probably stealing ideas that have been proposed for TF2. Lets face it TF2 has been in development for 3 years, and while valve have been polishing their magnum opus these sneaky developers have read the interviews, said "thats a cool idea" and then stole them and implemented them on the old engine and in their own mods.

The case for the defense rests, m'lud.
