ok. .put one card in the crappy machine worked fine.....registered at a NE2000 compatable......fine...

Put one in my new machine .....and well.....i had to do some deleting and reinstalling of drivers as a moved my pci modem which was in the dual slot to make way for the isa network card.....

But it eventually registered and installed the same....

But now when i boot up just after the bios configuring....and windows starts to load i get something like

EMM386 COULD NOT LOAD

UNABLE TO SET PAGE FRAME BASE ADDRESS

PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE

then i don't touch anything....and it seems to load (comes up really quick)

After that everything in fine (haven't tested the network yet)

ANY IDEAS REALLY ANNOYING.....

yeah.

And it has nothing to do with your network card.

EMM386 is the old dos Extended Memmory manager, for Dos 4 through to 6.21 and windows 3.1, 3.11 and occasionally win 95.

It was used to create extended memmory partions for PC´s back in the old days when 8MB was considered a lot of ram.

Check your Config.sys and possibly your config.bat file, look for any old dos programs that add a line to the config like

DOS=High
Load Emm386=3024
DOS=UMB

All the above are examples of the old os dos managers, there are lots..

Just go through your config.sys file and rem out the emm call, that should solve it.

lo m8,
I've had similiar probs with ISA cards. All the ones that register as NE2000 compatible had probs. Similiar thing - comes up with a real quick driver memory error, loads windows, picks up itself on network but none of my other machines.

1 - have 4 puters working fine on my LAN
2 - Just these NE2000 cards that are kicking up a fuss.

NE1 know if you have do do something special with the ISA NE2000 cards?

:)
