View Full Version : pc not booting
on initial powerup my pc won`t bootup at all. it sits there with the fan spinning but nothing else... pressing reset makes the system bootup and there after it runs flawlessly...any ideas?

Just an idea, but it might be the power supply. My T-Bird 700 is having similar probs from a 230w power supply - on the first boot, a lot of programs won't load (including vital things like the kernel) but after a warm reset everything works fine.
My girlfriend had exactly the same problem as you, and she solved it by buying a new power supply. If yours is an Athlon, you can pick up an AMD approved 300w PSU from http://www.scan.co.uk (hope this helps!)
athlon? i wish... celeron333 which i was given, put into a new abit s1 mobo with a new case and ram. everything else is off my old packard bell carthorse 300 speed twin special.

oops reread problem and realised my suggestion would not be valid in this case

fair enuff :)
seems to be working first time now....
just wondering if it could be a loose connection- i built the system myself and had a few probs with the fit of various parts, everything was really tight for space and every time i added a new part something else came loose :(
took a week or so of fiddling to get everything to work fine, then this booting prob surfaced...and vanished!
