I've recently been given the task of setting up a vBulletin board. I have version 1.1.3 or something like that. UK Linux supports MySQL so I signed up for them, but i'm having problems with the database :( I cannot create a new one, or reset the current one.
Any tips for setting up this with the UK Linux servers?
Thanks.
MC, I would highly reccomend that you avoid vBulletin, as the version you have is a cut down one. My personal favourite board is Ikonboard @ http://www.ikonboard.com . Its got almost as many features as the full version of VBulletin, and should run no probs on your UKLinux space PLUS its completely free for profit and non-profit use :). I have an example I can show you up anr running if you wish, just contact me at the usual places.

Yeah I agree, Ikonboard (http://www.ikonboard.com) is very good, easy to setup, and you can integrate it into your site very easily. But if you insist on using VBulletin and your having probs with UK linux i suggest Freedom 2 Surf (http://www.f2s.com), they offer almost exactly the same deals as UK Linux

Erm, ok. I actually prefer the Ultimate Bulletin Board to anything because of all the addons available.
I've used it here (http://hosted.barrysworld.net/mcstorage/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi) :)
...oh and the version I have isn't a cut down one

Elmo, i'll get it touch about that mate. I've been to the website of those boards and they look just as good as vBulletin ones. Is it just Pearl and CGI?
Freedom 2 Surf does not have MySQL support btw (I think)
Have you been by Uklinux's customer panel to actually setupa MySQL database, you need to do that to create the db user and password before you can install Vbulletin or wotever uses the db. You need to use uklinux dialup to do that unless you are on one of their payed for packages

So Does Ikonboard
Hi m8 u will need to know the log in info for the mysql ok
ie..
[user-name] [password] and the folder name like [vboard] u can change it if u want to u will need to set it u with the hosted server ok..
what i would do is to delete the vboard and start agane
and then upload it then type in the address ie soming like
http://www.hostname.com/php/install.php
and it will then show u a install form put the info it needs
and then it will be up and runing ok m8 bye bye :-)
HEHE!!!!!
Hmm, well if its uklinux your username and database name will be the same as your ftp username, its only the password that will be diff, IF you set it diff, once you do that (instructions on uklinux support page) all you have to do is edit Vbull's admin/config.php file with those details, upload and run the install.php script, ded eze.

Tried it all before. I've got a MySQL set up, tried to run the install, but it cannot create a database. If you just use "" as the database name, it tries to overwrite it, but again it cannot do that. Btw i'm not that dozey in not actually having the database set up :stare:
