View Full Version : Forum advice - ikonboard?
OK, I have heard quite a few of you lot going on about Ikonboard... I was attracted to this because it is free... BUT, i still can't decide what I should do for the forum.. if someone could answer these questions it may help :
1/ Does Ikonboard offer a service whereby you can have several forums, one or more of which is password protected (or something similar)? And how 'hacker-proof' is this?
2/ How easy is Ikonboard?
Muchos Gracias or somet' like that.

i dunno anything about that board but i use UltraBoard2000 on my website and its great..only £25 as well :)
Ikonboard is a great program, and as far as I know its relatively hacker proof when it comes to private forums. No ones going to be getting past it in a hurry if thats what you mean, and all failed attempts are logged.
Yes you can allow access to certain forums by clicking a little box in each users profile, and this can be done on a per forum basis.
As for setting up, its MUCH easier on a win2k server (which is what i have :E), but as your probably running on Unix you'll need to CHMOD the files which is not hard but a bit of a pain in the neck IMO.
Hope that helps you.
I'e got an Ikonboard setup on a Unix server and permissions is probably the hardest thing to do setting it up.
(Translation: It was a breeze to setup)
A fully featured forum for nowt, it gets my vote.
