how can i tell if i'm using it?it doesn't mention any compression under the dialup icon in the systray.I have ticked software commpression and disabled compression under error control just in case that was overriding it.This is what the log for my 56e pro looks like.

I posted a new thread a few days ago along the same lines as this, but no-one replied.

Since I don't have a signature at all, can I have an answer please?

not sure if this works for all modems but if you connect to the internet as usual and immediatley after disconnecting open up hyperterminal. type ATI6 and <return>

it should give you details of the last connection including info on the type of commpression used

have a look at slime's site http://www.lagless.com for more detailed explainations of modem compression

I figured out why I couldn't connect with it anyway. My init string was: AT&F2E1S10=30S11=50S27=64S36=7

I removed the &F2 and E1 and now it works!

P.S. S11=50 makes the modem dial much quicker (if anyone didn't know already)
