Programs running in the background

Hi peeps

I’ve recently noticed that on startup (W98) there an awful lot of programs running in the background, I can see them in task manager. Is there anyway to verify that everything here is okay, as I’m paranoid about security. I notice that when I shut a few down my PC continues to run fine. Does anyone also know what startup files I have to open to examine what my PC is loading up when it boots. Cheer for any help you can give.

Type msconfig into your run programs,go to startup and untick the programs you dont need running.

Youll only need system tray & maybe scan registry everything else you can disable.

The only programs you need in thee background are systray & explorer :)
