Lo, got cable installed today and its fantastic to say the least, but just restarted my comp and upon bootup a box pops up saying "microsoft network password"......um what is this? dunno what it means by microsoft network password..I just cancel it and everything is runnning fine...cable works just the same.
So just wondering what it is and if its needed?

When you install your 'cable modem' your effectively setting your computer up to be part of a network. (I believe it's a network card installed in your comp?) But anyhow, the 'network protocol' that allows the computers to chat sticks on this logon box for security purposes. You don't need to login for other obvious reasons. (obvious to me maybe) :E

Y'know, this is all clear in my head...never been good at explaining stuff.

I know! Matey, just keep cancelling it and all will be fine. :)

Rather than cancel it if you leave the password box empty, press enter then enter again in the confirmation box that pops up and it should save a .pwl file in your system folder and usually doesn't ask you ever again :)

Doesn't always work I'm afraid :(, usually depends on what order the networking was done and whether it uses the remember password option of the DUN connections.

That's the windows password box your thinking of, not the network password box.

No it applies to both, like I say dependant on what order you installed it and if you have such things as Windows Family logon installed. It's different across 95,98,98se and I've never quite pinpointed what triggers it do this, bit of luck is involved I suppose :)

You could download and install tweakui then set the login option to autologin. (*suspends belief about the network login box* :E)
