View Full Version : Memory!!
Yo wassup guys!
My freind said to me that you can't run an 64mb memory strip and a 128mb strip together on the same motherboard, is this true?
Also, i have 2 64mb pc100 memory strips on my motherboard, and i want to get a 128 or 256mb PC 133 memory strip to go with it.- will the pc100 and the pc133 work together?
Cheers lads!

i wouldn't mind knowing that...
They should do but they'll run at 100 max

yep they should all be fine. the only problem i think was back when mobos had 72pin Parity stuff. which u had 2 have like 2x 16's etc

the 128mb and the 64mb should live together just fine (I have the same configuration).
You want to check whether your board will handle PC133 ram though as that may cause some issues, if it can then I would suggest that you get all PC133 otherwise you will likely get either bottlenecks at 100 or stability problems.
(another opinion here would be good as I don;t have much experience with PC133 Ram, being poor and all that)

lo m8
Your m8 is talkin pi$h :E
any size of chips will work together
I wouldn't mix RAM speeds tho, it might cause problems first off can your mobo run 133mhz RAM ?
A 133mhz mobo can run 100mhz RAM and i dont think a 100mhz mobo will not run memory at 133mhz
Easiest thing will be to get the PC100 chip and there will be no problems.
Also 256mb is a bit of an overkill and it alot dearer per MB than a 128 chip see here at dabs (http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-search.asp?action=search&fb=Type&drt=1&tid=760&mid=900&ob=manufacturer&unpaged=true)
128mb is usually enough for anyone so a total of 320mb is way too much unless your doin BIG power hungry programmes so if your just upgrading for a boost the 128 + 64 will keep you goin for a while yet
I know the PC133 is a bit cheaper at the moment but it might cause problems so better keepin to what you know will work a nice new 128 PC100 will do fine

In general, 128mb is fine. However, general opinion is that you need 256mb if you're going to use any flight sims, and I can personally tell you that Voyager: Elite Force runs much better with 256mb (at least on my machine).
Scan are doing RAM dirt cheap right now. Order in the next couple of days and you could get 256mb plus delivery for less than £100. Christ, I sound like a commercial for the bloody place.

Please don't order from Scan ;( They are muppets! Deliveries are crap and after sales support is laughable, or cryable depending on how you look at it.

Used Scan loads of times never had a problem, all comes down to peoples experiences with different suppliers :) Dabs on the other hand are getting on my tits delaying my order by five days, all there web site says is "Waiting for credit card authorisation", it's instant you bunch of muppets... See, personal experiences :E

I found that when you first order from dabs that u get the credit card thing, but after that things go alot faster.

Yeah but when the site says 2-3 days deliver then spends 5 working days not including 2 days for the weekend just trying to authorise a credit card, yeesh...

Dunno bud, I move into my new house tomorrow :) (saturday) which is further out but not too far... :E
Well I had 64mb for eight months ( yes yes how did i manage to put up with it, UT and CS sapped the hell outta it :) )
But depending on the mobo it may work it may not, tbh as for the 320mb ram its not worth it, its like massive overkill and beyond a certain point there is no performance increase.
I actually ordered my ram from insight ( http://www.insight.com/uk ) and it came next day, is guaranteed for 10 years AND it was CL2 for max performance :).
You might want to just get a new 256mb CL2 strip and sell the old one or something cos you are going to be limiting the performance of the system to whatever the oldest and slowest dimm is.
