Right ever since using btinternet a number keeps appearing on my phone bills, the number is btinternet local rate. Now i use btfree, which is an 0800 number. This 0845 number appears on all our bills ever since using bt free. Most of the time appearing on our bills as a dial out for 30 seconds, sometimes minutes. The thing is it appears on our bills at times when there is nobody home and the computer is switched off.

Bt checked into this b4 and said this number has been dialled from my house, even though i know it hasnt.

Anyway recently recieved our latest bill, and iam now using home highway.Firstly the woman at home highway reckons that my pc is faulty and is dialling out even though the computer is switched off.She reckons that a few customers have experienced the same thing. Now is this possible,or r they feeding me a load of bull.

I cannot see how its possible for my computer to be dialling out this number when the computer is switched off.

Also our bill was a lot more than it should have been, they had charged us line rental, but also charged us another line rental for our extra line.

Ever since using bt internet i have had hassles, and the quicker i can find another isp the better. This 0845 number is going to keep appearing as long as i use btinternet.

So all along i have been charged for calls i have not made, and now they r charging me double for the extra line. The latter will be hopefully sorted out,but the former will keep happening, and not unless i take bt to court(which i cant afford to do),will never be resolved.

BT u r the biggest bunch of rip off merchants i have ever come across.

Sorry had to get that of my chest.Rant over.

I have heard of this happening loads, my old dear works at the citizens advice bureau and she recently had someone in for this. I can't remember what advice she gave or how the problem got sorted, so I'll go and check and post when I know a little bit more

if u use the btinternet desktop icon thing to connect than that can change the phone number depending on the time of the day
if u try it after 18:00 it dials the 0800 number
if u try it before this then it dials an 0844 number which costs 2p/min in the day

just create your own dial up settings and use that :)

ps. there is no way that your pc would dial if it was off :)
unless u have got some weird settings like wake on modem ring enabled which would turn on the pc if the phone rang lol
