View Full Version : U.S.R - High connection problem.
I have a USR 56k faxmodem internal.
At present I connect rather well at 50,666 or 49,333bps to BT Internet, but the is meh problem. My modem trys to sustain a too high connection and takes upto 10 attemps to get a stable connection. So i limit its bandwidh too 37kbp or sommit. Can n e 1 tell me a string so i can limit this to around 42,000bps. Im sure that would solve my stability problems.
Thanks. |TC|Geforce.
No problemo the string you need is
AT&N(and then a number)
eg I used to use
AT&N30
can't remmber what speed this is cos I now have ADSL but the string ya need is above.
30 limits I thing to 46,666, 31 to 48,000, check ya manual for precise settings.
I hope this helps ;)
It's all very well limiting your connection speed, but how do you get it UP? 38-41k isn't very good from what I've heard, and I'd like something faster for downloading. It's not that longer phone line either, and gain is up, with a decent modem and everything, so I ain't a clue :|
Limiting your conn is the best thing to do for online gaming as it will stabalise ping cos you won't get serial overruns, and it rarely affects U/P D/L speeds, if you cannot hit the modem max then I would say it is the ISP your using or quality of the actual phone line (not extension).

Yeh I thought it was the phone line. Most of the people I know connect at 49k which is annoying. However someone I know gets a pants 33k on a 56k modem! Erk. Roll on cable :)
OOh if they get only a consistant 33k then it sounds supiciously like they have a DACS line (split by BT cos they are lame like that sometimes) thus giving him half the available bandwidth :{
Infact I get the same ping on tfc about 130-40 with no gehy cheat tweaks. The extra bandwidth don't matter that much. And ohh btw that strin doesn't work. :¬P
